Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο This paper presents the preliminary results of a survey conducted by the National Documentation Centre/NHRF in the fall of 2010 among specialists in Byzantine Studies. The survey sought to assess needs and satisfaction with the electronic version of the journal ‘Byzantina Symmeikta’ and to assess scholarly attitudes about and practices in publishing in e-journals and open access journals among scholars in Byzantine Studies. The paper focuses on the latter part. Survey result suggest that scholars in Byzantine Studies increasingly rely on e-journals to carry out their research, they are predominantly positively disposed towards electronic publishing and open access, but most of them have not published in an electronic journal. Use of e-journals, experience with publishing in ejournals and open access journals and positive attitudes toward the above are especially high among younger scholars.

Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο Workflows for submission and processing of digital material is one of the important aspects of open access repositories and the major concerns in their implementation. The subject of the present paper is the modelling of processing workflows in the Hellenic National Archive of Doctoral Dissertations as Finite State Machines and their implementation through an original software library that enables client applications to create and utilise FSMs.

Η περαιτέρω αξιοποίηση των δεδομένων του δημοσίου τομέα συμβάλλει στη βελτίωση της ανταγωνιστικότητας, της καινοτομίας και της δημιουργίας θέσεων εργασίας, και αποτελεί μία από τις προτεραιότητες του Ψηφιακού Θεματολογίου της ΕΕ. Στο πλαίσιο της ενότητας θα παρουσιαστούν πολιτικές και πρωτοβουλίες για την επαναχρησιμοποίηση πληροφοριών του δημοσίου τομέα σε διεθνές, ευρωπαϊκό και ελληνικό επίπεδο, καθώς και σχετικές πρωτοβουλίες, ο αντίκτυπος και τα οφέλη από την επαναχρησιμοποίηση αυτή, καθώς και σχετικά θέματα πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων. The reuse of public data contributes to the improvement of competitiveness, innovation, the creation of new workplaces, and is one of the priorities in the digital agenda of Europe. Presentations on this topic will focus on international, European and Greek policies and initiatives for the reuse of public sector information and on relevant IPR issues.

Θα παρουσιαστούν οι τελευταίες τάσεις και εξελίξεις σε κρίσιμα ζητήματα που συνδέονται με τις ευρωπαϊκές και ελληνικές στρατηγικές για την Ανοικτή Πρόσβαση στην επιστημονική έρευνα. Η θεματολογία περιλαμβάνει εισηγήσεις για τις σύγχρονες πρακτικές στην επιστημονική επικοινωνία (scholarly communication), τα εργαλεία και τις υποδομές Ανοικτής Πρόσβασης, τη διαλειτουργικότητα των υποδομών, τη διαχείριση των πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων, την ανάπτυξη "συμμαχιών" για τη συγκέντρωση, ανταλλαγή και περαιτέρω αξιοποίηση πολλαπλών πηγών ψηφιακού επιστημονικού και πολιτιστικού περιεχομένου. Sessions on this topic will focus on the latest developments in crucial aspects of European and Greek strategies on Open Access in research, current practices in scholarly communication, infrastructures and tools that enable modern forms of research dissemination, infrastructure interoperability, alliance-building for the collection and efficient management and exploitation of digital research and cultural resources, relevant IPR issues.

The National Documentation Center (EKT) has developed HELIOS (http://helios-eie.ekt.gr) - the institutional repository of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) aiming at collecting the scientific work of its associate researchers. DSpace has been used as the repository platform in the implementation of HELIOS. According to the repository literature (A DRIVER’s Guide to European Repositories, Amsterdam University Press, 2008), offering value-added services to researchers can be an important factor for repository take-up, able to significantly increase deposits through self-archiving. Therefore, in order to encourage the usage of HELIOS among the NHRF researchers, an application providing value-added services over the repository has been developed. In brief, this application harvests the digital repository's data and presents them outside the repository's framework, enabling citation management and configurable custom reporting, for example producing publication lists per researcher and institute, exactly in the format applied in the institute annual report. The application is in operation on top of the HELIOS DSpace-based repository; however it has been designed and implemented to depend only on information retrieved via OAI-PMH, so that it can work with any OAI-PMH compliant repository platform (DSpace, Eprints, Fedora, etc.) International Conference on Open Repositories : Proceedings, The 5th International Conference on Open Repositories (OR2010), Madrid, Spain, 6-9 July 2010

Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο This presentation describes the work of the AccessIT project, which is funded by the Culture Programme 2007 – 2013, with the intention of helping to make artistic and cultural works and products from three countries in South Eastern Europe more easily accessible to people in other countries. It will focus in particular on the methods the project has adopted to do this, via training and skills development; explore some issues and possibilities relating to local accreditation of the resulting training course; and look at how the project plans to help organisations with relevant digital content in Greece, Serbia and Turkey become part of the rapidly developing Europeana.eu service.

Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο The aim of the Access IT project is to help small memory institutions to develop their digital libraries and connect them with Europeana. In order to achieve this, two on-line educational courses were prepared: "Digital repositories for small memory institutions" and "Cooperation with Europeana". The educational content of these courses was designed to enable small memory institution to expose and promote digital form of their local cultural heritage as a part of the Europeana network. This presentation will provide an overview of Access IT courses background, their final structure and content and ways these courses can be used.

Περιέχει το πλήρες κείμενο The presentation will provide a brief update on key developments in the Europeana initiative and will go on to describe the contribution made by the Europeana Local project to demonstrating the contribution of digital content from local and regional sources and to moving forward developments on the establishment of a Europe-wide aggregations infrastructure which makes available this content. It will suggest some questions about what may be needed in Greece.
