Preview Draft video presentation A video presentation on the topic of a Masters Thesis, pending publication. This thesis explores the feasibility of using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) to help clean the air aboard US Navy ships. Recent airborne related infections on Naval vessels, including the COVID-19 outbreak aboard a United States aircraft carrier, highlight the need to improve disinfection techniques used aboard naval vessels. Application of 200-280nm wavelength UVC light to the ship's heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) system in using specific exposure profiles makes inactivation and termination of airborne pathogens possible. Research has shown that UVGI is also successful at destroying biological warfare agents such as anthrax. Proper implementation of UVGI within a ship's ventilation system and in-room spaces can achieve high disinfection rates of airborne pathogens, reduce airborne-related illnesses, and increase operational availability. Commercial maritime employment of UVGI is also instructive. Recommendations included completing a multi-disciplinary design effort to install commercial-based prototypes on naval ships.

Panelists included Mr. Khoi Nguyen (Technical Director, MARFORCYBER), Mr. Tom Burt (CVP, Customer Security and Trust, Microsoft), Dr. Dan Massey (OUSD R&E, 5G-to-NextG), and Dr. Celeste Paul, (Technical Director, Strategic Cyber Security, NSA). Moderated by Dr. Ulf Lindqvist (Technical Director, SRI International). With an Introduction by NPS President Ann E. Rondeau, Ed.D., Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.).

This Seapower Conversation is actually the Kickoff Event for the 2021 Warfare Innovation Continuum (WIC) - HYBRID FORCE 2045. A panel discussion consisiting of reknowned faculty from the Naval Postgraduate School, Graduate School of International and Defense Studies (IDS), Department of National Security Affairs, and Department of War Studies King's College London will highlight recent research they have conducted and writings they have completed in the Geopolitical arena. A Seapower Conversation presentation Naval Warfare Studies Institute (NWSI)

Col. T.X. Hammes USMC(Ret.), a 30-year veteran, examines how Navy-Marine Corps Littoral Task Forces can be central to the joint strategic campaign against China. He also explores how the Marine Littoral Regiment can exploit emergine technology to better execute its role as the Stand-in Force. His commands included: an intelligence battalion, an infantry battalion, and the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force. He earned a Doctorate in Modern History from Oxford University and currently serves as a Distinguished Research Fellow at National Defense University. Moderated by CAPT Douglas E.
