    Authors: E.W. Brouwer;

    Laagland Archeologie heeft in september 2022 een archeologisch bureauonderzoek en verkennend booronderzoek uitgevoerd in een gebied gelegen tussen de Braamweg en Rondweg te Koudekerke. Het onderzoek vond plaats in verband met de ruimtelijke procedure rondom de aanleg van een zonnepark. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd conform de protocollen SIKB KNA 4002 en 4003. Het bureauonderzoek had tot doel een archeologisch verwachtingsmodel op te stellen. Centraal staat daarbij de vraag of en zo ja welke archeologische resten (complextype, datering, diepteligging en gaafheid) in het plangebied kunnen worden verwacht. Hiertoe zijn landschappelijke, archeologische en historische bronnen geraadpleegd. Uit het bureauonderzoek blijkt dat de westzijde van het plangebied ligt op een kreekrug met een hoge archeologische verwachting voor resten uit de Middeleeuwen en Nieuwe tijd. Het grootste deel van het plangebied is echter gelegen in een zone met overgangsgronden en poelgronden, waar op grote schaal moernering (veenwinning) heeft plaatsgevonden. In enkele zones zou nog intact veen kunnen liggen met een hoge verwachting voor archeologische resten uit de periode ijzertijd – Romeinse tijd. Het verkennend booronderzoek heeft tot doel de bodemopbouw te bepalen en eventuele kansrijke archeologische niveaus te onderscheiden. Hiertoe zijn verspreid in het toegankelijke deel van het plangebied 34 verkennende boringen tot een diepte van circa 2,0 m -mv gezet. In de westzijde van het plangebied op de kreekrug zijn sterk geroerde, kalkrijke bodemlagen aangetroffen tot in de zandige geulafzetttingen. De archeologische verwachting voor de westzijde kan worden bijgesteld naar laag. In de overgangs- en poelgronden is een sterk wisselende bodemopbouw aanwezig met over het algemeen kalkrijke, matig tot sterk silthoudende kleilagen. In enkele boringen zijn intacte veraarde veenlagen aanwezig, waar nog archeologisch resten aangetroffen kunnen worden. Dit archeologische kansrijke niveau ligt op een diepte van circa 100 cm -mv. In een aantal boringen lijken veenputten te zijn opgevuld met natuurlijke kleilagen. Zou dit het geval zijn dan betreft het mogelijk veenwinactiviteiten van uit de Romeinse tijd. Op basis van de resultaten van het uitgevoerde bureau- en booronderzoek wordt er aanbevolen om het grootste deel van het plangebied vrij te geven voor de toekomstige ontwikkelingen. Een zone in het centrale deel van het plangebied krijgt een hoge verwachting voor de aanwezigheid van archeologische resten uit de ijzertijd of Romeinse tijd in de top van het veen aanwezig op circa 100 cm -mv (180 cm -NAP). In deze zone, aangegeven in afbeelding 15, wordt het aanbevolen om geen graafwerkzaamheden te verrichten dieper dan 80 cm -mv (buffer van 20 cm). Indien er toch graafwerkzaamheden voorzien zijn die dieper reiken dan 80 cm wordt aanbevolen om een archeologisch vervolgonderzoek te doen bestaande uit aanvullende boringen om de omvang van de zone met intact veen beter in beeld te krijgen. Een eventueel vervolg kan dan bestaan uit een archeologische begeleiding of proefsleufonderzoek om na te gaan of zich ook daadwerkelijk archeologische resten op het veen bevinden. De implementatie van dit advies is in handen van de Gemeente Veere, geadviseerd door het WAD (Walcherse Archeologische Dienst). De gemeente had geen inhoudelijke opmerkingen over het onderzoek. Mochten tijdens de werkzaamheden onverhoopt toch archeologische resten worden aangetroffen, of resten waarvan redelijkerwijze kan worden vermoed dat het om archeologische resten gaat, dan geldt op grond van de Erfgoedwet (art. 5.10) een meldingsplicht. Dit kan bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE, www.cultureelerfgoed) of bij het WAD.

    Authors: A.J. Tol;

    In 2015 en 2016 heeft Archol verschillende archeologische onderzoeken uitgevoerd in plangebied Harselaar-Zuid en de directe omgeving daarvan. Deze resultaten zijn in één rapport gepresenteerd. Het betrof in de eerste plaats een opgraving van verschillende nederzettingen uit de ijzertijd en de volle middeleeuwen. Daarnaast zijn verschillende andere onderzoeken (zowel proefsleuven als archeologische begeleidingen) uitgevoerd, waarbij eveneens nederzettingssporen uit de ijzertijd zijn onderzocht.De bewoningssporen uit de ijzertijd (ca. 800-12 v.Chr.) bestonden uit de resten van verschillende erven met op elk erf een woonhuis en daarmee geassocieerde bijgebouwen. Gecombineerd met de resultaten van eerdere onderzoeken in aangrenzende gebieden kan geconcludeerd worden dat de dekzandruggen te Harselaar gedurende de midden- en late ijzertijd intensief bewoond werden. Op basis van het huidige onderzoek kan bovendien gesteld worden dat de bewoning hier al in de vroege ijzertijd, tussen ca. 800 en 500 v.Chr., begint. Uit deze periode waren in de regio tot op heden nog maar weinig resten aangetoond. De bewoning in het gebied lijkt continu door te lopen tot aan de vroeg-Romeinse tijd (1ste eeuw n.Chr.), waarna het gebied verlaten lijkt te zijn. Ook in het huidige onderzoek zijn geen sporen of vondsten gedaan die wijzen op bewoning na de vroeg-Romeinse tijd. Pas in de volle middeleeuwen, rond het midden of einde van de 11de eeuw, wordt er opnieuw een erf gesticht in het gebied. Dit erf blijft bewoond tot ongeveer het jaar 1300 en wordt in de tussenliggende tijd verschillende malen herbouwd. In totaal zijn vijf verschillende fasen onderscheiden. De bewoning houdt waarschijnlijk niet op na 1300, maar verplaatst zich dan naar de locatie van de huidige bebouwing aan de Wencopperweg (bij de boerderij -en thans partycentrum- Het Hoefslag). Een belangrijke vraag van het onderzoek was of op deze locatie het uit historische bronnen bekende wildvorstersgoed Wedichem kon worden aangetoond. Dit wildvorstersgoed was de woonplaats van de wildvorster, een door de graaf van Gelre aangestelde ambtenaar van (lage) adel, die onder meer het beheer voerde over grafelijke jachtgebieden en belastingen inde. Ter beantwoording van deze vraag is aanvullend historisch en historisch-geografisch onderzoek uitgevoerd, op basis waarvan geconcludeerd kan worden dat het wildvorstersgoed inderdaad op deze locatie gelegen moet hebben. De vroegste vermelding van het wildvorstersgoed Wedichem dateert uit 1326. Daarmee zijn de bij de opgraving onderzochte middeleeuwse erven ouder dan de vroegste historische vermelding. Desondanks zijn er verschillende aanwijzingen dat de bewoners van de nederzetting ook al voor 1326 het ambt van wildvorster uitvoerden. Zo was de toegang tot het erf in de laatste bewoningsfase (tweede helft 13de eeuw) vermoedelijk gemarkeerd door een toegangspoort. Dergelijke toegangspoorten zijn geassocieerd met ‘aristocratische’ woonplaatsen. Daarnaast bevindt zich onder het vondstmateriaal wat jachtwapentuig (waaronder een ijzeren spits specifiek bedoeld voor de jacht op groot wild) en enkele botten van edelhert. Ervan uitgaande dat de edelhertbotten en het jachtwapentuig niet wijzen op stroperij maar op legale jacht dan vormt dit een sterke aanwijzing dat de opgegraven nederzettingen ook als wildvorstergoed fungeerden. Het recht op de jacht lag in de middeleeuwen namelijk bij de graaf of diens vertegenwoordiger (zoals een wildvorster). Het feit dat het erf verder in vele opzichten niet afwijkt van andere rurale nederzettingen in de regio suggereert dat het wildvorstersgoed verder fungeerde als een normale hoeve, waarmee de wildvorster en diens familie in hun levensonderhoud voorzagen.

    Authors: Wei, Juncheng, 1968-;

    In 1971, Serrin proved that the only bounded domain for which the overdetermined problem ∆u + f (u) = 0, u > 0 in Ω u = 0 on ∂Ω ∂νu = C on ∂Ω admits a solution is the bounded ball. In 1997, Berestycki, Caffarelli and Nirenberg considered the unbounded domain case, and proposed the following conjecture: If Serrin's problem admits a solution and Ωc is connected, then Ω is either a half space, a cylinder B × RN−k, or complement of a ball or cylinder. In this talk, I shall discuss positive and negative answers to this conjecture.In particular, when Ω is an epigraph Ω = {xN > φ(x′)}, we show that (1) BCN conjecture is always true when N = 2, (2) BCN conjecture is true when 3 ≤ N ≤ 8 if ∂u > 0 (3) BCN conjecture is false when N ≥ 9. A key observation ∂xN is the connection between this problem and a one-phase free boundary problem. Author affiliation: University of British Columbia Unreviewed Faculty Non UBC

    Authors: E.W. Brouwer;

    Laagland Archeologie heeft in september 2022 een archeologisch bureauonderzoek en verkennend booronderzoek uitgevoerd in een gebied gelegen tussen de Braamweg en Rondweg te Koudekerke. Het onderzoek vond plaats in verband met de ruimtelijke procedure rondom de aanleg van een zonnepark. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd conform de protocollen SIKB KNA 4002 en 4003. Het bureauonderzoek had tot doel een archeologisch verwachtingsmodel op te stellen. Centraal staat daarbij de vraag of en zo ja welke archeologische resten (complextype, datering, diepteligging en gaafheid) in het plangebied kunnen worden verwacht. Hiertoe zijn landschappelijke, archeologische en historische bronnen geraadpleegd. Uit het bureauonderzoek blijkt dat de westzijde van het plangebied ligt op een kreekrug met een hoge archeologische verwachting voor resten uit de Middeleeuwen en Nieuwe tijd. Het grootste deel van het plangebied is echter gelegen in een zone met overgangsgronden en poelgronden, waar op grote schaal moernering (veenwinning) heeft plaatsgevonden. In enkele zones zou nog intact veen kunnen liggen met een hoge verwachting voor archeologische resten uit de periode ijzertijd – Romeinse tijd. Het verkennend booronderzoek heeft tot doel de bodemopbouw te bepalen en eventuele kansrijke archeologische niveaus te onderscheiden. Hiertoe zijn verspreid in het toegankelijke deel van het plangebied 34 verkennende boringen tot een diepte van circa 2,0 m -mv gezet. In de westzijde van het plangebied op de kreekrug zijn sterk geroerde, kalkrijke bodemlagen aangetroffen tot in de zandige geulafzetttingen. De archeologische verwachting voor de westzijde kan worden bijgesteld naar laag. In de overgangs- en poelgronden is een sterk wisselende bodemopbouw aanwezig met over het algemeen kalkrijke, matig tot sterk silthoudende kleilagen. In enkele boringen zijn intacte veraarde veenlagen aanwezig, waar nog archeologisch resten aangetroffen kunnen worden. Dit archeologische kansrijke niveau ligt op een diepte van circa 100 cm -mv. In een aantal boringen lijken veenputten te zijn opgevuld met natuurlijke kleilagen. Zou dit het geval zijn dan betreft het mogelijk veenwinactiviteiten van uit de Romeinse tijd. Op basis van de resultaten van het uitgevoerde bureau- en booronderzoek wordt er aanbevolen om het grootste deel van het plangebied vrij te geven voor de toekomstige ontwikkelingen. Een zone in het centrale deel van het plangebied krijgt een hoge verwachting voor de aanwezigheid van archeologische resten uit de ijzertijd of Romeinse tijd in de top van het veen aanwezig op circa 100 cm -mv (180 cm -NAP). In deze zone, aangegeven in afbeelding 15, wordt het aanbevolen om geen graafwerkzaamheden te verrichten dieper dan 80 cm -mv (buffer van 20 cm). Indien er toch graafwerkzaamheden voorzien zijn die dieper reiken dan 80 cm wordt aanbevolen om een archeologisch vervolgonderzoek te doen bestaande uit aanvullende boringen om de omvang van de zone met intact veen beter in beeld te krijgen. Een eventueel vervolg kan dan bestaan uit een archeologische begeleiding of proefsleufonderzoek om na te gaan of zich ook daadwerkelijk archeologische resten op het veen bevinden. De implementatie van dit advies is in handen van de Gemeente Veere, geadviseerd door het WAD (Walcherse Archeologische Dienst). De gemeente had geen inhoudelijke opmerkingen over het onderzoek. Mochten tijdens de werkzaamheden onverhoopt toch archeologische resten worden aangetroffen, of resten waarvan redelijkerwijze kan worden vermoed dat het om archeologische resten gaat, dan geldt op grond van de Erfgoedwet (art. 5.10) een meldingsplicht. Dit kan bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE, www.cultureelerfgoed) of bij het WAD.

    Authors: A.J. Tol;

    In 2015 en 2016 heeft Archol verschillende archeologische onderzoeken uitgevoerd in plangebied Harselaar-Zuid en de directe omgeving daarvan. Deze resultaten zijn in één rapport gepresenteerd. Het betrof in de eerste plaats een opgraving van verschillende nederzettingen uit de ijzertijd en de volle middeleeuwen. Daarnaast zijn verschillende andere onderzoeken (zowel proefsleuven als archeologische begeleidingen) uitgevoerd, waarbij eveneens nederzettingssporen uit de ijzertijd zijn onderzocht.De bewoningssporen uit de ijzertijd (ca. 800-12 v.Chr.) bestonden uit de resten van verschillende erven met op elk erf een woonhuis en daarmee geassocieerde bijgebouwen. Gecombineerd met de resultaten van eerdere onderzoeken in aangrenzende gebieden kan geconcludeerd worden dat de dekzandruggen te Harselaar gedurende de midden- en late ijzertijd intensief bewoond werden. Op basis van het huidige onderzoek kan bovendien gesteld worden dat de bewoning hier al in de vroege ijzertijd, tussen ca. 800 en 500 v.Chr., begint. Uit deze periode waren in de regio tot op heden nog maar weinig resten aangetoond. De bewoning in het gebied lijkt continu door te lopen tot aan de vroeg-Romeinse tijd (1ste eeuw n.Chr.), waarna het gebied verlaten lijkt te zijn. Ook in het huidige onderzoek zijn geen sporen of vondsten gedaan die wijzen op bewoning na de vroeg-Romeinse tijd. Pas in de volle middeleeuwen, rond het midden of einde van de 11de eeuw, wordt er opnieuw een erf gesticht in het gebied. Dit erf blijft bewoond tot ongeveer het jaar 1300 en wordt in de tussenliggende tijd verschillende malen herbouwd. In totaal zijn vijf verschillende fasen onderscheiden. De bewoning houdt waarschijnlijk niet op na 1300, maar verplaatst zich dan naar de locatie van de huidige bebouwing aan de Wencopperweg (bij de boerderij -en thans partycentrum- Het Hoefslag). Een belangrijke vraag van het onderzoek was of op deze locatie het uit historische bronnen bekende wildvorstersgoed Wedichem kon worden aangetoond. Dit wildvorstersgoed was de woonplaats van de wildvorster, een door de graaf van Gelre aangestelde ambtenaar van (lage) adel, die onder meer het beheer voerde over grafelijke jachtgebieden en belastingen inde. Ter beantwoording van deze vraag is aanvullend historisch en historisch-geografisch onderzoek uitgevoerd, op basis waarvan geconcludeerd kan worden dat het wildvorstersgoed inderdaad op deze locatie gelegen moet hebben. De vroegste vermelding van het wildvorstersgoed Wedichem dateert uit 1326. Daarmee zijn de bij de opgraving onderzochte middeleeuwse erven ouder dan de vroegste historische vermelding. Desondanks zijn er verschillende aanwijzingen dat de bewoners van de nederzetting ook al voor 1326 het ambt van wildvorster uitvoerden. Zo was de toegang tot het erf in de laatste bewoningsfase (tweede helft 13de eeuw) vermoedelijk gemarkeerd door een toegangspoort. Dergelijke toegangspoorten zijn geassocieerd met ‘aristocratische’ woonplaatsen. Daarnaast bevindt zich onder het vondstmateriaal wat jachtwapentuig (waaronder een ijzeren spits specifiek bedoeld voor de jacht op groot wild) en enkele botten van edelhert. Ervan uitgaande dat de edelhertbotten en het jachtwapentuig niet wijzen op stroperij maar op legale jacht dan vormt dit een sterke aanwijzing dat de opgegraven nederzettingen ook als wildvorstergoed fungeerden. Het recht op de jacht lag in de middeleeuwen namelijk bij de graaf of diens vertegenwoordiger (zoals een wildvorster). Het feit dat het erf verder in vele opzichten niet afwijkt van andere rurale nederzettingen in de regio suggereert dat het wildvorstersgoed verder fungeerde als een normale hoeve, waarmee de wildvorster en diens familie in hun levensonderhoud voorzagen.

    Authors: Wei, Juncheng, 1968-;
