Nálezy z archeologického výzkumu v Březnici (okr. Tábor) v letech 2005-2009 a 2019. Výzkum provedl O. Chvojka (Archeologický ústav FF JU v Českých Budějovicích). Data zahrnují údaje o keramice a dalších nálezech použitých k depoziční analýze sídlištních objektů mladší doby bronzové, zejména tzv. žlabů. Výsledky analýzy jsou publikovány v Chvojka et al. 2021. Popis databáze je obsažen v přiloženém PDF souboru. Podpořeno Grantovou agenturou ČR (18-10747S). Finds from the archaeological excavations in Březnice (Tábor district, South Bohemia, Czech Republic) in 2005-2009 and 2019. The fieldwork was directed by O. Chvojka (Institute of Archaeology, South Bohemian University in České Budějovice). Data concern the pottery fragments and other finds (daub, loom weights) used for the analysis of deposition processes in the Late Bronze Age settlement features. Based on this material, a model of house biography and the concept of closing rituals were formulated (see Chvojka et al. 2021). These models suggest an interpretation for the so-called trenches, specific sunken features filled with an unusually rich content of secondary-burnt pottery and other finds. Details of the database are given in the attached PDF file. Supported by the Czech Sceince Foundation (18-10747S). Chvojka, O. – Kuna, M. – Menšík, P. et al. 2021: Rituály ukončení a obnovy. Marx’s Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts are usually interpreted as a transitional work between different elements of Feuerbach’s and Hegel’s philosophy which are still strongly present in the work of young Marx, and between Marx’s mature historical materialism. In the present text, we will try to show (with reference to the recent discussions on “young Marx”, especially in the French context), that the Manuscripts, in fact, contain an ontology that cannot be reduce either to a mere residuum of classical German philosophy, or to a materialist conception of social life. We shall try to describe this original ontology as an ontology of the sensible, or as an ontology of the finitude of human sensibility.”

This paper discusses the wooden statue JE 100373, which was recently re discovered in the basement of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Based on the statue’s stylistic analysis and its identification in the unpublished excavation report MSS Gunn XXII, we re identify it as part of the statue ensemble of the overseer of the two granaries Ihy, found in a cache within a Ptolemaic tomb at Saqqara. As a result, the investigation proves the provenience of the statue from Cyril M. Firth’s excavations south of the Step Pyramid complex in 1926. Com bining conservation science and traditional Egyptological approaches, the paper finally provides evidence for the continuity of the manufacture of large sized high quality wooden statuary by residential workshops until the final years of Pepy II or slightly later.

The paper discusses a relatively small wine container called an askos, which is part of a ‘treasure’ of silver vessels allegedly found in central Thrace. The askos is compared to several clay parallels excavated thus far exclusively in Thrace. These clay askoi occur in three different ceramic fabrics: banded ware, a fabric with painted floral and geometric motifs, and monochrome ware. Our silver exemplar is dated to the very end of the 4th century BC and attributed to a workshop most plausibly located in a Greek colony of the western Black Sea coast.

Alexander’s famous ban of the exposure of the corpses in Bactra has been long studied. Mostly the discussion has focused on the veracity of the account and his compliance with the Zoroastrian rites. The analysis of the reasons that led Alexander to the ban has hitherto been very superficial, only outlining the apparently exceptional character of that action. This paper tries to put this prohibition into a broader context. For this purpose, a look at the previous actions of Alexander in relation to the foreigners’ corpses must first be taken. Also, the extremely negative conception of the unburied in the Hellenic culture, religion, and politics needs to be properly assessed. Only after this analysis, the signification of the prohibition can be rightly apprehended and integrated into the wider context of Alexander’s conquest, and not regarding it as a mere king’s whim. This Bactrian episode stands for a good example of how the Macedonian campaign put face to face conflicting religious practices.

This paper delves into Late Iron Age decorated coarse ware originating from the present day province of Bergamo in central Lombardy. During protohistoric time, this region served as a borderland and a nexus connecting extensive cultural spheres, encompassing both lowland and mountainous terrains. The study presents data sourced from investigations conducted in the lowlands, alongside previously undisclosed finds from the local urban centre of Bergamo. We examine recent finds from the mountain range, encompassing not only the broader region but also focusing on the village of Parre in the Valle Seriana, a crucial place for comprehending the dynamics between lowland plains and mountainous environments. This distinct pottery class exhibits traces of both indigenous and far reaching influences, suggesting its significance in the multifaceted process of Romanization and its role in negotiating cultural identities during this intricate historical phase.

A special methodology is necessary for protection of built monuments due to a requirement to preserve their value. Unfortunately, there are no easily accessible and systemized knowledge concerning the nature of the causes of damage of historical objects. Presented system MONDIS can overcome this situation. The system utilizes sematic technologies for damage description from its manifestation, through its causes to possible intervention. A mobile application enabling investigation of damages directly on site is an integral part of the system.

The LT C2 – LT D central settlement near Neubau, in the vicinity of Linz, Upper Austria, with its voluminous pottery ensemble, offers opportunities for the study of La Tène pottery. Important characteristics of the find complex are the high proportion of graphite pottery and the rare occurrence of hand formed vessels. Despite an insufficient state of research on the subject of coarse pottery, interesting tendencies could be detected in the comparison of numerous settlements in southern Germany, north eastern Austria, and the Czech Republic. The high proportion of graphite pottery aligns Neubau with various settlements in south ern Bavaria, southern Bohemia, Lower Austria, and Moravia, and raises the question of the supply of the raw material. The low proportion of hand built vessels finds its best comparisons in Lower Austria and to a certain extent in Moravia. In contrast, hand built pottery played a significant role in the material culture of southern Germany and most parts of Bohemia. Whether this difference can be explained by the way the pottery production was organised or by a specific symbolic content of vessel forms is unclear. The observa tions show, however, that coarse domestic pottery can contribute to the understanding of the Late Iron Age.

The sacred landscape of Central Asia consisted of various religions and ritual practices that grew out of local traditions. The latest archaeological excavations of the Iron Age cultic structures in Central Asia reveal a diverse array of ritual and religious practices during the Achaemenid period. Textual and artefactual evidence confirms the coexistence of various belief systems in Bactria and Sogdia, with the Achaemenid form of Zoroastrianism (or Mazdeism) among the practiced religions. The deity of the Amu Darya/Oxus River held widespread reverence. The Achaemenid dominion over Central Asia left a lasting impact on the region’s sacred landscape, achieved not through direct imperial interference but through providing material support to the local religious institutions. Many traditions observed during the Achaemenid period endured over time, remaining fully operational throughout the subsequent Hellenistic era. Posvátná krajina Střední Asie se skládala z různých náboženství a rituálních praktik, které vyrůstaly z místních tradic. Nejnovější archeologické vykopávky kultovních staveb z doby železné ve Střední Asii odhalují rozmanitou škálu rituálních a náboženských praktik v achaimenovském období. Texty a artefakty potvrzují koexistenci různých věroučných systémů v Baktrii a Sogdii, přičemž mezi praktikovanými náboženstvími byla i achaimenovská forma zoroastrismu (neboli mazdeismu). Božstvo řeky Amu Darja/Oxus se těšilo široké úctě. Achaimenovská nadvláda nad Střední Asií zanechala v posvátné krajině regionu trvalý vliv, kterého nebylo dosaženo přímými císařskými zásahy, ale poskytováním materiální podpory místním náboženským institucím. Mnohé tradice dodržované v achaimenovském období přetrvaly v průběhu času a zůstaly plně funkční i v následující helénistické éře.
