Phoebe Apperson Hearst had a very successful son of William, but he was more like his father: a tough businessman. However, she found a delicate, artistic soul in the painter Orrin Peck (1860–1921), who was allegedly gay and who, while still his own mother's life, began to address her as “my second mother.” Based on a detailed study of their correspondence in Peck's estate, we may ask how much a progressive, rich 19th-century woman like Phoebe Hearst was aware of Peck's sexuality, and if so, if she had no problem with it, or was it an unspoken secret between them? Their story will be presented by art historian Ladislav Zikmund-Lender.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of the most original architects of the twentieth century: Adolf Loose (1870-1933). The lecture will present Loos's journalistic activities, the main ideas of his architecture, their mutual contradictions, but also Loos's successors, such as Kurt Unger, Heinrich Kulka, his promoters in the Czech lands, such as Jan Vaněk, Bohumil Markalous and Bořivoj Kriegerbeck, and enemies which included, for example, Otto Wagner or Josef Gočár. In the presentation of Loos's architecture, the lecture will focus on the so-called Raumplan, the spatial arrangement of modern housing, its sources, including the classical layout of a country palace, and how Loos's Raumplan was developed and enriched with other innovations in Vienna's youngest pre-war generation. architects such as Fritz Reichl or Josef Frank.

The aim is to assess public urban space's architectural and urban changes due to different cultural influences in the locality "Berlin Kreuzberg" – an area of reconstruction Kottbusser Tor – with 63.5 % representation of foreigners and residents with a migration background and a high share of non-European cultural influences. The selected area was compared with the locality "Berlin Lichtenberg" - Weitlingkiez (which has a low representation of foreigners and residents with migratory backgrounds) and with the situation of the appearance of the urban environment around 1980 and the current state. The results show the effects of cultural differences, both architectural and urban – changes in groups – Shape, Mass, and Space, as well as, for example, by comparing the number of services in both localities.Based on the data obtained, we can state no radical reconstructions in the "Berlin Kreuzberg" locality. The original buildings retain their European character. Cultural influence is manifested by changes in the types of buildings - mosques and cultural centres of Islam, synagogues, and Buddhist prayer houses.
