This paper reports results of analysis of field ion emission mechanism from tungstenepoxy composite emitters that are compared to tungsten nanofield emitters. In this context, the mechanism of emission from this type of emitters is described based on a theory of induced conductive channels. The tungsten emitters were prepared using the electrochemical polishing technique and coated with a layer of the epoxy resin. Field ion microscope (FIM) analyses are reported including the study of the emissionion density distributions from both the uncoated and coated emitters. Two forms of emission patterns have been observed in the ion emission microscopy technique describing the differences in the emission mechanism of both types of emitters. The observed results show: (a) the expected crystalline surface atomic distribution images of the field ion microscopy in the case of uncoated tungsten tips, and (b) randomly distributed emission spots that describe the locations of the induced conductive channels inside the resin coating layer.

In autumn 2019, the Czech Republic celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Velvet Revolution, which ended four decades of communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia. New freedoms have made it easier for LGBTQ people to live their lives more openly in this Central European country, yet they still face significant challenges. Established in 2014, the Society for Queer Memory is the first Czech queer archives and museum. It now holds more than 1,000 objects. Art historian Ladislav Zikmund-Lender will discuss the work of the organization, providing insight into how the history of queer lives and experiences is being documented and presented in the Czech Republic. His talk will compare and contrast the ways that the path to queer emancipation in Central Europe has been distinct from the United States.

In 1939, due to WWII and the Nuremberg Laws, the revolutionary Czech structural engineer Jaroslav J. Polívka arrived in the United States. After his arrival, he started a research job at UC Berkeley, renewed his engineering practice, and offered his services to the US military as many businesspersons did during this era. Polívka worked for Henry Kaiser who turned Richmond, CA, into a vibrant, fast developing workers city. New residential districts, hospitals, hangars, docks, and warehouses were built there. Henry Kaiser approached the structural development of the city in the same way he revolutionized the construction of battleships: from prefabricated, standardized parts. He supported research and development of new technologies. Mobile, round-shaped hospitals from prefabricated aluminum frames were one of the results of that research. In 1946, Jaroslav J. Polívka introduced himself to the “starchitect” Frank Lloyd Wright. A productive mutual co-operation that lasted 13 years and resulted in eight spectacular projects had started and Polívka, who had been working on extensive research both at UC Berkeley and Stanford University, came up with many technological, structural, and material innovations over the period. In 1957, Henry Kaiser funded the construction of one of the two geodesic domes designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller in Hawaii and in the process he invited Frank Lloyd Wright to consult the project. Jaroslav J. Polívka was probably in direct contact with Fuller, since he wanted to include him in his unfinished project of an encyclopedia of the world-famous structural engineers. On this particular story and a social matrix evolving around Henry Kaiser and Frank Lloyd Wright, the lecture seeks to rethink architectural global modernism as a cooperative project rather than a series of individual innovations manifested by isolated genius figures.

The Garden of the Hesperides may have been located at the westernmost tip of the Mediterranean Sea in North Africa, near the Atlas Mountains, on the edge of the world ocean, in present-day Morocco. Whether or not these sites are more accurately described, model studies have emerged that are of interest for understanding patterns in Moorish and Roman northwestern Morocco and suggest that they ideally explore the relationship between sites, subsistence, access to the sea, and agriculture. They also examine location and distance from the sea and the relationship to maritime trade with the Mediterranean. These models are examples of successful ecosystem ensembles that can be used to determine the distribution of settlements based on environmental resources and cultural factors. In this study, 30 sites are examined. Other locations are also mentioned in connection with the Hesperidek garden. For example, the Sicilian Greek poet Stesichorus in his poem "Song of Geryon" and the Greek geographer Strabo in the third volume of his book Geography mention that the Garden of the Hesperides was located in Tartessus in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. However, in the light of this independent study and other sources, it is possible that some of the 30 sites studied in north- west Morocco may be the mythical Garden of the Hesperides.

In 1931, the Vienna publishing house Anton Schroll & Co. published Heinrich Kulka’s extensive monograph on Adolf Loos. In his text, Kulka discussed Loos’s idea of being an architect, he wrote about ornament and the reduction of ornament, and then, on about one page, he outlined Loos’s space concept, which he named “raumplan”. He emphasized a better organization and rationalization of interior space as Loos’s main innovation. However, when we look at Loos’s 1920s and 1930s houses, they boast of a huge waste of space (and money). After Loos’s death in 1933, many of his apprentices continued designing “in the Loos manner”, as Heinrich Kulka promoted his projects from the mid-1930s. At the same time, we can see that the apprentices‘ projects do not achieve Loos’s spatial qualities and proportions and their works had been contaminated with other inventions of architectural avant-garde. What was the real purpose of the invention and use of the term “raumplan“ by Loos’s pupils and has there been anything like that after Loos’s death? The lecture will try to answer this question using examples of post-Loos works by Heinrich Kulka and Kurt Unger from 1933 to 1939.

This Special Issue contains a series of excellent research works on telecommunications and signal processing; selected from the 2019 42nd International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP), which was held during 1–3 July 2019, in Budapest, Hungary. The Conference was organized in cooperation with the IEEE Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa), IEEE Hungary Section, IEEE Czechoslovakia Section, IEEE Czechoslovakia Section SP/CAS/COM Joint Chapter, and Scientific Association for Infocommunications, a Sister Society of the IEEE and the IEEE Communications Society, by seventeen universities from Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan, Slovak Republic, Spain, Bulgaria, France, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, and Poland, for academics, researchers, and developers, and it serves as a premier annual international forum to promote the exchange of the latest advances in telecommunication technology and signal processing [1]. The aim of the conference is to bring together both novice and experienced scientists, developers, and specialists, to meet new colleagues, collect new ideas, and establish new cooperation between research groups from universities, research centers, and private sectors worldwide. It is our great pleasure to introduce a collection of 11 selected high-quality research papers and let us briefly illustrate the published works in this Special Issue.

Live H1299 lung carcinoma cells in vitro were exposed to selected drugs with a presumed antimigration activity that implies antimetastatic potential and time-lapse examined with Coherence Controlled Holography Microscopy (CCHM) with holographic incoherent light Quantitive Phase Imaging (hiQPI). It is a methodology that online evaluates the dynamics of morphology, migration, and the growth of tumor cells by weighing them. Material and method: Q-Phase (Telight, Brno, Czech Republic) as a commercially available CCHM was employed for the hiQPI of cells. Four putative migrastatics, vincristine (VIN, 100 nM), doxycycline (DOXY, 1 mg/ml), and 4-hydroxyacetophenone (4HAP, 4 M) were tested with H1299, using Ibidi -Slide VI 0.4 for 20 hours recording with Q-Phase. Cells were cultivated at 37°C in a humidified incubator with 3.5% CO2 in standard Eagle MEM medium with 10% fetal bovine serum, 20 M gentamicin, and 2mM L-glutamine. For the time-lapse recording, the medium was enriched with 20 mM HEPES to maintain pH 7.4. Results and discussion: This research showed that on the cancer cell line H1299 the vincristine and doxycycline had the greatest migrastatic effect in the 2D environment under given conditions. These putative migrastatics showed an effect on the dynamics of migration and cell morphology. Conclusion: The hiQPI screening is a reliable and economical approach to in vitro introductory testing of potential migrastatics. hiQPI combines high-precision cell imaging, which is important for cell segmentation and thus tracking cell trajectories, with cell growth measurements, thus providing a comprehensive assessment of a potential risk of some cytopathic issues.
