    This report is about the experiments with mixing of the separated water and the vacuum pump seal water at Hellisheiði power plant. This is done to prevent silica scaling and clogging in pipes and reinjection wells as well as eliminating vacuum pump seal water from the plant. The experiments were done in four stages: the first stage comprised of tests with different flows of separated water at 70°C, the second stage was carried out by mixing the separated water at 70°C and the seal water with different amounts of the seal water, the third and the fourth stages were like the first and second but with the separated water at 120°C. The results show that this method is good if the mixture is around 50/50 separated water and seal water, to control the silica scaling in the separated water and to be able to reinject the seal water with the separated water. This does not eliminate the silica scaling in all of the separated water because the amount of separated water is much more than the amount of seal water that comes from the plant.

    AbstractIt is commonly assumed that many, if not most, adult children have moral duties to visit their parents when they can do so at reasonable cost. However, whether such duties persist when the parents lose the ability to recognise their children, usually due to dementia, is more controversial. Over 40% of respondents in a public survey from the British Alzheimer’s Society said that it was “pointless” to keep up contact at this stage. Insofar as one cannot be morally required to do pointless things, this would suggest that children are relieved of any duties to visit their parents. In what appears to be the only scholarly treatment of this issue, Claudia Mills has defended this view, arguing that our duties to visit our parents require a type of relationship that is lost when parents no longer remember who their children are. This article challenges Mills’ argument. Not only can children be duty-bound to visit parents who have lost the ability to recognise them, I argue that many children do in fact have such duties. As I show, these duties are grounded in any special interests that their parents have in their company; the fact that visiting their parents might allow them to comply with generic duties of sociability; and/or the fact that such visits allow them to express any gratitude that they owe their parents.

    There is an ongoing shortage and high demand for basic and specialized nurses in health care sectors in Sweden. The sick leave among healthcare workers has been remarkably increasing since 2012. Number of sick leaves has been increased among health care workers including midwives and specialized nurses regardless to their level of education. Aim of the study is to learn more about competence, competence growth and how it has impact on nurse health at their working place.Qualitative semi-structured interview method is used in this study and snowball sampling method is used to select the study participants. Interview data of all participants are analyzed using thematize analysis method. Eight nurses took part in this study and seven of them are working in hospital and one participant is working in an elderly care home. Almost all of the participations reported that competence is one of the key requirements for health care workers. The participants reported that the competence and the competence growth in working place are associated with professional experience, resources, peer support, cooperation, personal characteristics, attitude of managers and colleagues towards skills development, work environment, training towards knowledge updating and specialization and short terms courses. The study results show that most of participations have stable sense of coherence (KASAM) and the ability to associate the works with coherence is high. Five of eight participations scored high in of sense of coherence and it’s three components: comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness. One participant scored high in comprehensibility, manageability and whereas low in meaningfulness. Two participants scored high in comprehensibility and meaningfulness whereas low in manageability. The components of sense of coherence are often associated with good health in many studies. However, further researches to assess the relationship between the variables sense of coherence and nurses competent are required and it can be helpful for health promotional works among heath care workers.

    Syftet med denna studie var att utveckla en biokomposit med både fett-och vattenbarriär. Material med dessa egenskaper innehåller idag ofta PFAS-molekyler (per- och polyfluorerade alkylsubstanser). Det är av stor betydelse att byta ut dessa mot ett biobaserat alternativ då de är giftiga och ackumuleras i naturen. Biokompositen utvecklades genom att kombinera icke-trä pappersmassa (75%) och trä pappersmassa (25%) som matris. Därefter tillsattes olika biobaserade additiv i våtände för att påverka materialets egenskaper. Proverna testades på deras dragstyrka, vattenavvisning och fettavvisning. Den stora utmaningen var att lyckas med fettavisningen. 1% Polysackarid 1 tillsammans med 0.5% sizing komponent var det provet som gav bäst resultat. För att utvärdera denna metod gjordes en jämförelse med ytbehandling. Det gjordes genom att stryka på några av de tidigare använda additiven på ytan av matrisen. Ytbehandlingen visade sig ha en större påverkan på fettavvisningen men med liknande eller sämre påverkan på vattenavvisningen. Nackdelen med denna metod är att den kräver ett flertal extra steg i produktionen. The aim of this thesis work was to develop a pulp-based biocomposite material with good water and grease barrier properties. It is important to achieve such properties to able to replace PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances) molecules due to their toxicity and accumulation. Different types of pulp were evaluated as the matrix and the optimal matrix was based on non-wood pulp (75%) with wood pulp 1 (25%). This was also combined with several different additives in the wet-end. The samples were tested for their tensile strength, water resistance and grease resistance. The biggest challenge was to achieve adequate grease resistance. 1% Polysaccharide 1 together with 0.5% sizing agent was one of the better samples. It was clear the additives affected each other when used in combination with each other which indicates that wet end chemistry is complex. For a comparison, some additives were also tested as coatings. This technique resulted in better grease resistance but requires several extra steps in the production.

    The main objective of this thesis is to provide a deeper understanding of the charge transport phenomena occuring in molecular crystals. The focus is on the stability and the dynamics of the polaron as the charge carrier. To achieve this goal, a series of numerical calculations are performed using the semi-emprical "Holstien-Peierls" model. The model considers both intra- (Holstein) and inter- (Peierls) molecular interactions, in particular the electron-phonon interactions. First, the stability of the polaron in an ordered two dimensional molecular lattice with an excess charge is studied using Resilient backPropagation, RPROP, algorithm. The stability is defined by the "polaron formation energy". This formation energy is obtained for a wide range of parameter sets including both intra- and inter-molecular electron-phonon coupling strengths and their vibrational frequencies, transfer intergral and electric field. We found that the polaron formation energies lying in the range of 50-100 meV are more interesting for our studies. The second step to cover is the dynamical behaviour of the polaron. Using the stable polaron solutions acheived in the first step, an electric field is applied as an external force, pushing the charge to move. We observed that the polaron remains stable and moves with a constant velocity for only a limited range of parameter sets. Finally, the impact of disorder and temperature on the charge dynamics is considered. Adding disorder to the system will result in a more restricted parameter set space for which the polaron is dynamically stable and mobile. Temperature is included in the Newtonian equations of motion via a random force. We observed that the polaron remains localized and moves with a diffusive behaviour up to a certain temperature. If the temperature increases to values above this critical temperature, the localized polaron becomes delocalized. All this research work is coded in MATLAB software , allowing us to run the calculations, test and validate our results.

    What is the difference between intention and action? To start answering this complex question, we have created a serious game that allows us to capture a large quantity of experimental data and study human behavior. In the game, users catch flies, presented to the left or to the right of the screen, by dragging the tongue of a frog across a touchscreen monitor. The movement of interest has a predefined starting point (the frog) and necessarily transits through a via-point (a narrow corridor) before it proceeds to the chosen left/right direction. Meanwhile, the game collects data about the movement performed by the player. This work is focused on the analysis of such movements. We try to find criteria that will allow us to predict (as early as possible) the direction (left/right) chosen by the player. This is done by analyzing kinematic information (e.g. trajectory, velocity profile, etc.). Also, processing such data according to the dynamical movement primitives approach, allows us to find further criteria that support a classification of human movement. Our preliminary results show that individually considered, participants tend to create and use stereotypical behaviors that can be used to formulate predictions about the subjects’ intention to reach in one direction or the other, early after the onset of the movement.

Härskarringen valdes ut i samband med en större undersökning bland manliga gymnasieelever. Vi använder oss av en kvalitativ analys av de tre filmerna. I Härskarringen presenteras en stereotyp bild av maskulinitet där typiska manliga karaktärsdrag är att vara ädel, fysiskt stark, modig, lojal, ödmjuk, potent, intelligent, beskyddande, respektingivande och med en stark vilja att kämpa för det rätta.

    This report is about the experiments with mixing of the separated water and the vacuum pump seal water at Hellisheiði power plant. This is done to prevent silica scaling and clogging in pipes and reinjection wells as well as eliminating vacuum pump seal water from the plant. The experiments were done in four stages: the first stage comprised of tests with different flows of separated water at 70°C, the second stage was carried out by mixing the separated water at 70°C and the seal water with different amounts of the seal water, the third and the fourth stages were like the first and second but with the separated water at 120°C. The results show that this method is good if the mixture is around 50/50 separated water and seal water, to control the silica scaling in the separated water and to be able to reinject the seal water with the separated water. This does not eliminate the silica scaling in all of the separated water because the amount of separated water is much more than the amount of seal water that comes from the plant.

    AbstractIt is commonly assumed that many, if not most, adult children have moral duties to visit their parents when they can do so at reasonable cost. However, whether such duties persist when the parents lose the ability to recognise their children, usually due to dementia, is more controversial. Over 40% of respondents in a public survey from the British Alzheimer’s Society said that it was “pointless” to keep up contact at this stage. Insofar as one cannot be morally required to do pointless things, this would suggest that children are relieved of any duties to visit their parents. In what appears to be the only scholarly treatment of this issue, Claudia Mills has defended this view, arguing that our duties to visit our parents require a type of relationship that is lost when parents no longer remember who their children are. This article challenges Mills’ argument. Not only can children be duty-bound to visit parents who have lost the ability to recognise them, I argue that many children do in fact have such duties. As I show, these duties are grounded in any special interests that their parents have in their company; the fact that visiting their parents might allow them to comply with generic duties of sociability; and/or the fact that such visits allow them to express any gratitude that they owe their parents.

    There is an ongoing shortage and high demand for basic and specialized nurses in health care sectors in Sweden. The sick leave among healthcare workers has been remarkably increasing since 2012. Number of sick leaves has been increased among health care workers including midwives and specialized nurses regardless to their level of education. Aim of the study is to learn more about competence, competence growth and how it has impact on nurse health at their working place.Qualitative semi-structured interview method is used in this study and snowball sampling method is used to select the study participants. Interview data of all participants are analyzed using thematize analysis method. Eight nurses took part in this study and seven of them are working in hospital and one participant is working in an elderly care home. Almost all of the participations reported that competence is one of the key requirements for health care workers. The participants reported that the competence and the competence growth in working place are associated with professional experience, resources, peer support, cooperation, personal characteristics, attitude of managers and colleagues towards skills development, work environment, training towards knowledge updating and specialization and short terms courses. The study results show that most of participations have stable sense of coherence (KASAM) and the ability to associate the works with coherence is high. Five of eight participations scored high in of sense of coherence and it’s three components: comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness. One participant scored high in comprehensibility, manageability and whereas low in meaningfulness. Two participants scored high in comprehensibility and meaningfulness whereas low in manageability. The components of sense of coherence are often associated with good health in many studies. However, further researches to assess the relationship between the variables sense of coherence and nurses competent are required and it can be helpful for health promotional works among heath care workers.

    Syftet med denna studie var att utveckla en biokomposit med både fett-och vattenbarriär. Material med dessa egenskaper innehåller idag ofta PFAS-molekyler (per- och polyfluorerade alkylsubstanser). Det är av stor betydelse att byta ut dessa mot ett biobaserat alternativ då de är giftiga och ackumuleras i naturen. Biokompositen utvecklades genom att kombinera icke-trä pappersmassa (75%) och trä pappersmassa (25%) som matris. Därefter tillsattes olika biobaserade additiv i våtände för att påverka materialets egenskaper. Proverna testades på deras dragstyrka, vattenavvisning och fettavvisning. Den stora utmaningen var att lyckas med fettavisningen. 1% Polysackarid 1 tillsammans med 0.5% sizing komponent var det provet som gav bäst resultat. För att utvärdera denna metod gjordes en jämförelse med ytbehandling. Det gjordes genom att stryka på några av de tidigare använda additiven på ytan av matrisen. Ytbehandlingen visade sig ha en större påverkan på fettavvisningen men med liknande eller sämre påverkan på vattenavvisningen. Nackdelen med denna metod är att den kräver ett flertal extra steg i produktionen. The aim of this thesis work was to develop a pulp-based biocomposite material with good water and grease barrier properties. It is important to achieve such properties to able to replace PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances) molecules due to their toxicity and accumulation. Different types of pulp were evaluated as the matrix and the optimal matrix was based on non-wood pulp (75%) with wood pulp 1 (25%). This was also combined with several different additives in the wet-end. The samples were tested for their tensile strength, water resistance and grease resistance. The biggest challenge was to achieve adequate grease resistance. 1% Polysaccharide 1 together with 0.5% sizing agent was one of the better samples. It was clear the additives affected each other when used in combination with each other which indicates that wet end chemistry is complex. For a comparison, some additives were also tested as coatings. This technique resulted in better grease resistance but requires several extra steps in the production.

    The main objective of this thesis is to provide a deeper understanding of the charge transport phenomena occuring in molecular crystals. The focus is on the stability and the dynamics of the polaron as the charge carrier. To achieve this goal, a series of numerical calculations are performed using the semi-emprical "Holstien-Peierls" model. The model considers both intra- (Holstein) and inter- (Peierls) molecular interactions, in particular the electron-phonon interactions. First, the stability of the polaron in an ordered two dimensional molecular lattice with an excess charge is studied using Resilient backPropagation, RPROP, algorithm. The stability is defined by the "polaron formation energy". This formation energy is obtained for a wide range of parameter sets including both intra- and inter-molecular electron-phonon coupling strengths and their vibrational frequencies, transfer intergral and electric field. We found that the polaron formation energies lying in the range of 50-100 meV are more interesting for our studies. The second step to cover is the dynamical behaviour of the polaron. Using the stable polaron solutions acheived in the first step, an electric field is applied as an external force, pushing the charge to move. We observed that the polaron remains stable and moves with a constant velocity for only a limited range of parameter sets. Finally, the impact of disorder and temperature on the charge dynamics is considered. Adding disorder to the system will result in a more restricted parameter set space for which the polaron is dynamically stable and mobile. Temperature is included in the Newtonian equations of motion via a random force. We observed that the polaron remains localized and moves with a diffusive behaviour up to a certain temperature. If the temperature increases to values above this critical temperature, the localized polaron becomes delocalized. All this research work is coded in MATLAB software , allowing us to run the calculations, test and validate our results.

    What is the difference between intention and action? To start answering this complex question, we have created a serious game that allows us to capture a large quantity of experimental data and study human behavior. In the game, users catch flies, presented to the left or to the right of the screen, by dragging the tongue of a frog across a touchscreen monitor. The movement of interest has a predefined starting point (the frog) and necessarily transits through a via-point (a narrow corridor) before it proceeds to the chosen left/right direction. Meanwhile, the game collects data about the movement performed by the player. This work is focused on the analysis of such movements. We try to find criteria that will allow us to predict (as early as possible) the direction (left/right) chosen by the player. This is done by analyzing kinematic information (e.g. trajectory, velocity profile, etc.). Also, processing such data according to the dynamical movement primitives approach, allows us to find further criteria that support a classification of human movement. Our preliminary results show that individually considered, participants tend to create and use stereotypical behaviors that can be used to formulate predictions about the subjects’ intention to reach in one direction or the other, early after the onset of the movement.
