The natural geographer Axel Hamberg (1863-1933) became the funder of the research in the mountain massif, Sarek, Sweden, the area known as Sweden’s last wild life area. He based his thesis on the research results from Sarek. He installed instruments for hydrographical and metrological measurements, as well as for sun hour registrations. However, he was only present in the summers/autumns, so to keep the measurements on an annual basis did he hire Sámi as research assistants. Lars Nilsson Tuorda (1858-1930) became the most hired one, and was employed as a regular for almost two decades. Tuorda made most of the annual registrations and measurements in the Sarek research, supervised logistics in the area, and became in charge of the financial aspect of the research organisation when Hamberg was not present. Tuorda’s responsibility was massive. In Hamberg’s published scientific works are the efforts made by Tuorda, and other extras and assistants, not mentioned. Tourda’s, and others’ jobs, were only revealed in Tuorda’s letters to Hamberg, and in Hamberg’s private field diaries. Hamberg made the efforts of his assistants invisible before the reading public, and the scientific community. This also means that Hamberg based his thesis on scientific works he did not all execute himself, leaving beside the knowledge his Sámi co-workers provided for him, knowledge that he was in great need of in his work in Sarek. My own research is to reveal the extent of the works and efforts made by Hamberg’s hired assistants, in particular Lars Nilsson Tuorda’s work in Hamberg’s Sarek research organisation. Osteoarchaeological analysis of human remains from the Neolithic site Åloppe, Norrskog. The material has been analyzed during two occasions, partly in connection with the faunal analysis (see Gummesson 2008) and partly separately where also material that did not have context information was included. The material has been analyzed at the osteoarchaeological research laboratory at Stockholm University and its reference collections have been used. The database is in Swedish and Latin. Materialet har analyserats vid osteoarkeologiska forskningslaboratoriet vid Stockholms universitet och dess referenssamlingar har använts. Databasen är utformad på svenska och latin.

This dataset consists of a digital elevation model (DEM) and an orthomosaic of the ���Bear Trap��� (also called ���Bj��rnef��lden��� in Danish, and ���Putdlagssuaq��� or ���The Great Trap��� Greenlandic Kalaallisut), a Norse ruin at the western end of the Nuussuaq Peninsula in NW Greenland. Images comprise 1032 low-altitude aerial images acquired from an unoccupied aerial vehicle (DJI Phantom 3 Standard). These images were processed using Agisoft Metashape Pro (v1.7; Linux Ubuntu) following the USGS protocols for processing imagery in coastal areas. The locations of 8 ground control points (GCPs) were surveyed with a high accuracy global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver (Emlid Reach). The base station and rover data were processed using the Emlid distribution of the free RTKLib software (https://docs.emlid.com/reach/common/tutorials/gps-post-processing/). Geoid height was computed using the online UNAVCO Geoid Height Calculator (https://www.unavco.org/software/geodetic-utilities/geoid-height-calculator/geoid-height-calculator.html). During the image alignment step in Metashape, the ���High��� accuracy setting and key point and tie point limits of 60000 and 0 were used. Generic and reference preselection were not used. Gradual selection was used to remove tie points that exceeded thresholds for the projection accuracy, reconstruction uncertainty, and reprojection error and the intrinsic camera parameters were computed for each camera calibration group. GCPs were then imported and placed in each image. The dense point cloud was then computed using the ���Ultra High��� quality setting, followed by the DEM and orthomosaic. The resolution of the orthomosaic is 1.83 cm/pixel. 5 cm resolution orthomosaic and DEM were also exported for use in QGIS. A complete file list is provided in the README file that accompanies this dataset. The image survey was conducted as part of the Vaigat Iceberg-Microbial Oil Degradation and Archaeological Heritage Investigation (VIMOA) project, which was funded by the Danish Centre for Marine Research and supported by the Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University, in affiliation with the National Museum of Denmark, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, and The Greenland National Museum and Archives in Nuuk. Proper archaeological permits for the survey were obtained in advance from the Greenland National Museum and Archives in Nuuk. Walsh et al. Abstract Dark and clear silicate glasses formed during an iron age vitrification event ≈ 1500 years ago at the Broborg hillfort near Uppsala, Sweden have been analyzed using a scanning electron microscope equipped with a micro-X-ray fluorescence (μXRF) spectrometer. Correlated µXRF and electron beam-induced energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) X-ray maps were collected via stage-scanning at constant velocity. This coupled procedure represents a new approach for the cultural heritage community to conduct analytical studies of archaeometric specimens composed of metal, ceramic, or mixed inorganic/organic materials, where major and trace element compositions are registered in space for areas up to the centimeter-length scale at micrometer-scale resolution. Overview images were used to select areas for EDS beam scan maps correlated with multispectral cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging and co-located quantitative EDS and μXRF point analysis. Fe, Ca, Mg, Ti, P, Mn, Zr, Zn, and Y are enriched in the dark glass, while Si, Al, K, Na, Ba, Sr, Rb, and Ga are enriched in the clear glass. Unmelted material is comprised predominately of quartz (SiO2) along with trace apatite (Ca5(PO4)3[Cl,OH]) and zircon (ZrSiO4). Multivariate statistical analysis was used to measure the area fractions of high variance components while lower variance components represented phase mixtures. Differences between calculated melt viscosities for the glass compositions are consistent with field and laboratory observations. Coupled large area EDS and μXRF imaging shows significant promise for informed selection of higher spatial resolution and higher sensitivity follow-up studies, e.g., those performed using synchrotron analysis. This thesis on the Swedish voluntary women’s defence organisation Riksförbundet Sveriges lottakårer (SLK), studies how the board and the members of SLK discussed the problems and the meaning of voluntary defence work during the 1960s and 1970s. Furthermore the thesis aims to engage with previous research and give an explanation to why people may be interested in voluntary defence. Views varied greatly within SLK: some meant that the voluntary grounds of participation gave a sense of elite status to the organisation; however others saw voluntary work as untenable, since more women at the time had both work and family obligations. Another issue was professionalisation versus socialisation. While some members wanted to see a centralisation and professionalisation of the organisation, others found it more important to safeguard the social functions and independence of the local corps unit. The results suggest that gender structures as well as individual agency create multiple reasons and meanings behind voluntary defence work.

Italian fascists presented corporatism, a system of sector-wide unions bringing together workers and employers under firm state control, as a new way to resolve tensions between labour and capital, and to reincorporate the working classes in national life. ‘Cultural corporatism’ – the fascist labour model applied to the realm of the arts – was likewise presented as a historic resolution of the problem of the artist’s role in modern society. Focusing on two art conferences in Venice in 1932 and 1934, this article explores how Italian leaders promoted cultural corporatism internationally, creating illiberal international networks designed to help promote fascist ideology and Italian soft power.

This examination will analyze the possibility of using the game Battlefield 1 while teaching history. Throughout the analysis, Battlefield 1s campaign which is called War Stories will be analyzed together with the introduction of the game which is called Prologue. The analysis of the campaign will be to check how the campaign uses history and what potential historical consciousness can a player of the game obtain. After these two are analyzed, there will be ananalysis on the possibility of using the Prologue and the War Stories while teaching history. In order to analyze the Prologue and the War Stories use of history and historical consciousness, Peter Aronsson and Klas-Göran Karlsson’s theories on how history can be used and their ideas on historical consciousness will be present. A reason for analyzing the Prologue and War Storiesis to see if there is a possibility to use a game that is about World War 1 in the classroom. There are five different War Stories and each one will be analyzed to see how it uses history and if it raises a potential historical consciousness for the player who plays the game. The method for this examination is that the Prologue and the five War Stories will be analyzed through the framework of professor Martin A. Wainwright’s seven thematic units. The Prologue and the War Stories use history in different ways such as an existential way of using history and they raise potential historical awareness on how World War 1 potentially looked like. They also raise knowledge on historical places, figures and weapons such as Lawrence of Arabia and the iconic British tank Mark V. There is a possibility of using the Prologue and War Stories during history lessons, but the main thing for that regards to time and knowledge by the teacher. You have to have time to teach pupils on the game and its mechanics and also the knowledge for how the game is played. This research field regarding videogames and education is not a developed field, and therefore there is a lack of an analysis model for using videogames while teaching. Hopefully, this examination will contribute the research field, so it gets more developed regarding videogames and education.

This study is a degree project in Information Design with a focus on Spatial Design. The aim has been to gain an understanding of the residents' relationship to the city of Fuengirola through methods and theories. This with the goal of developing a public environment that leads to an increased sense of place while respecting and informing about a culture that is de-prioritized in favor of fast-growing tourism. The work inspects, from a perspective of Critical Regionalism and Sense of Place, the meaning of an authentic cultural experience and how it can be communicated through a spatial design. Methodical work has been carried out where interviews, photo studies, site analyses and an analysis of these have led to answers regarding which factors the residents of Fuengirola feel most attached to and which aspects have been lost over time. The results concluded that the attachment to place and the place identity that Fuengirola generates are based on interactions, traditions, and social gatherings, where the beach and tourism play a leading role. The sense of place is also strengthened through materials from a former room, as they still have a cultural importance today. The collected empirical evidence in combination with the theories has been the basis for a design proposal. The proposal involves a concept of different passages that reflects the activities and interactions that have characterized a room of the past and the factors that created an attachment to the place among the inhabitants. This degree project only visualizes part of a selected street to give an example of how these streets can potentially benefit an increased sense of place, place identity and connection to place in the city of Fuengirola. Denna studie är ett examensarbete inom Informationsdesign med inriktning Rumslig Gestaltning. Syftet har varit att genom metoder och teorier få en förståelse för invånarnas relation till staden Fuengirola. Detta med målet att utveckla en offentlig miljö som leder till en ökad platskänsla samtidigt som den respekterar och informerar om en kultur som bortprioriteras till förmån för en snabbväxande turism. Arbetet inspekterar, ur ett perspektiv av Kritisk Regionalism och Sense of Place, innebörden av en autentisk kulturell upplevelse och hur den kan kommuniceras genom en rumslig utformning. Ett metodiskt arbete har bedrivits där intervjuer, fotostudier, platsanalyser samt en analys av dessa har lett till svar inom vilka faktorer som Fuengirolas invånare känner mest anknytning för samt vilka aspekter som förlorats genom tiden. Resultaten kommer fram till att den platsanknytningen samt den platsidentitet som Fuengirola genererar har sin grund i interaktioner, traditioner och sociala sammankomster, där strand och turism bär en ledande roll. Platskänslan stärks även genom material från ett dåtida rum, då de har fortfarande en kulturell vikt idag. Den insamlade empirin i kombination med teorierna har legat som grund för ett gestaltningsförslag. Förslaget innebär ett koncept av olika stråk som reflekterar de aktiviteter och interaktioner som har präglat ett dåtida rum och de faktorer som skapat en platsanknytning hos invånarna. Detta examensarbete visualiserar endast del av en utvald gata för att ge ett exempel på hur dessa stråk kan eventuellt gynna en ökad platskänsla, platsidentitet och platsanknytning i staden Fuengirola. En del bilder har inför publicering suddats ut på grund av upphovsrättsliga skäl.
