Introduction:The IMAgiNE EURO project is currently ongoing in 23 countries. It documents the perspective of both mothers and health workers (HWs) on the quality of maternal and newborn care around the time of childbirth, during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. Within the IMAgiNE Euro Project this study aimed at investigating training on respectful care, across HWs from 12 countries of the WHO European Region.Material and Methods:HW providing care to women and newborns in facilities for at least 1 year between March 1st 2020 to March 1st 2023, were invited to answer an anonymous, validated, online survey based on WHO Standards Quality Measures. We performed a descriptive analysis on indicators related to respectful maternity care training courses and subgroup analyses to look at differences by facility type (private vs public) and by health profession (midwife vs other HWs).Results:Among 4143 HWs more than a half were midwives (2500, 60.3%), with the larger sample was from Italy (589, 14.2%). There was a large variation of frequencies across countries for all Quality Measures and no country was free from gaps. More than one third of HWs reported “need of significant improvement” on training events on counselling and communication (1406, 34.2%; country range: 20.1%-64.3%), pain relief practices (1496, 36.4%; 36.1%-58.0%), emotional support (1595, 38.8%; 29.1%-60.7%), informed consent practices (1757, 42.7%; 33.1%-71.3%), and rights of women/newborns (2050, 49.8%; 47.9%-82.6%). HWs in public facilities reported significantly higher “need of significant improvement” for all Quality Measures on respectful care training. Midwives perceived higher need of significant improvement for counselling and communication (p=0.001) and rights of women/newborns (p=0.002).Conclusions:HWs from both maternal and newborn area in 12 countries of the WHO European region call for improvements on training to strengthen their respectful care skills. Training delivery and HWs competences should be routinely monitored to ensure high quality care for all women.

Abstract Background Experiences from the first wave of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic can aid in the development of future preventive strategies. To date, risk prediction models for COVID-19-related incidence and outcomes in hemodialysis (HD) patients are missing. Methods We developed risk prediction models for COVID-19 incidence and mortality among HD patients. We studied 38 256 HD patients from a multi-national dialysis cohort between 3 March and 3 July 2020. Risk prediction models were developed and validated, based on predictors readily available in outpatient HD units. We compared mortality among patients with and without COVID-19, matched for age, sex and diabetes. Results During the observational period, 1259 patients (3.3%) acquired COVID-19. Of these, 62% were hospitalized or died. Mortality was 22% among COVID-19 patients with odds ratios 219.8 [95% confidence interval (CI) 80.6–359] to 342.7 (95% CI 60.6–13 595.1), compared to matched patients without COVID-19. Since the first wave of the pandemic affected most European countries during the study, the risk prediction model for incidence of COVID-19 was developed and validated in European patients only [N = 22 826 area under the ROC curve(AUC)Dev 0.64, AUCVal 0.69]. The model for prediction of mortality was developed in all COVID-19 patients (AUCDev 0.71, AUCVal 0.78). Angiotensin receptor blockers were independently associated with a lower incidence of COVID-19 in European patients. Conclusions We identified modifiable risk factors for COVID-19 incidence and outcome in HD patients. Our risk prediction tools can be readily applied in clinical practice. This can aid in the development of preventive strategies for future waves of COVID-19.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the causal agent of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), causing large economical losses of the global swine industry. Nitric oxide (NO), as an important signaling molecule, has antiviral activity on some viruses. To date, there is little information on the role of NO during PCV2 infection. We used indirect fluorescence assay (IFA), TCIDOur findings indicate that the form of NO

Purpose The COVID-19 pandemic had a substantial effect on mental health and work productivity of early-career researchers working in Radiation Oncology (RO). However, the underlying mechanisms of these effects are unclear. The aim of the current qualitative study was therefore to achieve a better understanding of how these effects arose and could be managed in the future. Methods This study was conducted jointly by RO and qualitative health researchers. Data was collected in four online Focus Groups with 6-11 RO researchers (total N = 31) working in Europe. The transcripts were analysed through a qualitative cross-impact analysis. Results Causal relations were identified between seventeen variables that depict the impact of disrupted working conditions. Mental health and work productivity were indeed the most important affected variables, but relations between variables towards these impacts were complex. Relations could either be positive or negative and direct or indirect, leading to a cascade of interrelated events which are highly personal and could change over time. We developed the model 'impact of disrupted working conditions' depicting the identified variables and their relations, to allow more individual assessment and personalised solutions. Conclusion The impacts of disrupted working conditions on RO researchers varied due to the complexity of interrelated variables. Consequently, collective actions are not sufficient, and a more personal approach is needed. Our impact model is recommended to help guide conversations and reflections with the aim of improving work/life balance. The participants showed high levels of personal responsibility towards their own mental health and work productivity. Although being an individual issue, a collective responsibility in developing such approaches is key due to the dependency on organizational variables.

To prevent the more severe spread of COVID-19 infections, sensitive, rapid, low-cost, and multiplexed detection is critical. Recently, Gao et al. reported a laser-engraved graphene-based wireless device to monitor multiple biomarkers from human biofluids, allowing for high-frequency self-testing of COVID-19 with high accuracy and low cost.
