    In 2017–2020, rescue archaeological research continued on the deposits above the preserved basement rooms of the western palace of the castle in Brandýs nad Orlicí. The exca vation yielded evidence of the presence of tiled stoves, crown window glass, non-combustible roofing in the form of fragments of barrel tiles and ceramic square tiles that once covered the floors of the upper stories. The interiors of the rooms yielded a diverse variety of kitchen ceramics, metal objects and numerous fragments of hollow glassware.

    Efektivní hospodaření se srážkovou vodou v urbanizovaných územích by mělo splňovat požadavky legislativy, naplňovat zásady odpovědného hospodaření s vodou, být ekonomicky efektivní ve fázích přípravy, realizace i provozu a též přinášet celospolečenské benefity, například kvalitní veřejná prostranství, ochranu vodních zdrojů nebo podporu biodiverzity. Publikace shrnuje poznatky, které ukazují veřejné správě a odborné veřejnosti cestu, jak prosazovat hospodaření se srážkovou vodou v rámci plánování a výstavby na rozvojových plochách měst. Text zároveň odkazuje na další výsledky řešení projektu TA ČR – katalog opatření, softwarovou aplikaci a specializované mapy pilotních lokalit.

    Dynamics of populations with logistic growth leads to global persistence on arbitrary networks, whereas bistable dynamics is always associated with local extinction. In this paper we study a reaction-diffusion model on networks with a combination of both logistic and bistable reactions. We analyze a system of source-sink dynamics on networks with migration survival probabilities and derive conditions for strong persistence or local extinction. We show how the persistence or extinction of small populations depend on the diffusion strength, migration survival probability, network structure, and the sum and distribution of per capita growth rates. Dynamika populací s logistickým růstem vede ke globální persistenci na obecných sítích, zatímco bistabilní dynamika je vždy spojena s lokálním vymíráním. V tomto článku studujeme reakčně-difuzní model na sítích s kombinací jak logistických tak bistabilních reakcí. Analyzujeme dynamický systém na sítích s pravděpodobnostmi přežití migrace a odvozujeme podmínky pro silnou persistenci a lokální extinkci. Ukazujeme, jak závisí persistence a extinkce malých populací na síle difuze, pravděpodobnosti přežití migrace, struktuře sítě a součtu a rozložení intenzit růstu.

    In recent years, the flow analysis by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become a useful design and optimization tool. Unfortunately, despite advances in the computational power, numerical simulations are still very time consuming. Thus, empirical correlation models keep their importance as a tool for early stages of axial compressor design and for prediction of basic performance parameters. These correlations were developed based on experimental data obtained from 2D measurements performed on cases of classical airfoils such as the NACA 65-series or C.4 profiles. There is insufficient amount of experimental data for other families of airfoils, but CFD simulations can be used instead and their results correlated using artificial neural networks (ANN), as described in this work. Unlike the classical deep learning approach using perceptrons, this work presents neural networks employing higher order neural units.

    The paper maps the development of efforts to save and secure the ruins of Litice Castle (District of Ústí nad Orlicí) from 1920 to 1941. Based on available archival sources, the efforts to secure the castle from the 1920s onward and the circumstances surrounding the partial conservation of the castle buildings in 1925 are presented here. Subsequently, the body of the paper is devoted to the extensive conservation and reconstruction works from 1935 to 1941, when the southern castle palace and the adjacent tower were roofed and made accessible and the other castle masonry was extensively conserved. In addition to monitoring the actual progress of the rescue work, attention is paid here to the circumstances that enabled or, on the contrary, prevented their implementation, and to the evaluation of the performed repairs.

    Sputter-based cluster beam deposition offers a solvent- and effluent-free physical method to synthesize nanoparticles (NPs) with tailored characteristics. Here, depending on pressure, we synthesize Nb NPs of spherical (diameter 32 nm) and cubic (side length 19 nm) shape, and perform a detailed structural characterization. A known analytical model of the NP growth and thermalization was modified to account for ion bombardment and non-ideal atomic sticking in the plasma. The model was enforced with ad hoc multi-timescale molecular dynamic simulations to unveil the peculiarities of the growth of Nb NPs and explain the difference in their morphology. Magnetronové naprašování umožňuje syntézu nanočástic (NP) s řízenými charakteristikami bez použití roztoků a bez produkce odpadů. V článku popisujeme syntézu nanočástic Nb kulového (průměr 32 nm) a kubického (hrana 19 nm) tvaru v závislosti na tlaku, včetně jejich detailní strukturní charakterizace. Předchozí analytický model růstu a termalizace nanočástic byl modifikován, tak aby zahrnul bombardováni ionty a neideální ulpívání atomů na povrchu v plazmatickém prostředí. Model je dále podpořen multiškálovými simulacemi založenými na molekulární dynamice, které růst nanočástic detailně objasňují a vysvětlují rozdíly v jejich morfologii.

    The study deals with an aristocratic residence located near the village of Lhota Svatogothardská near Hořice in the Podkrkonoší region. The original name of the castle is unknown and is referred to by its folk name – Pustohrad. In the past, undocumented excavations and a series of surface surveys were carried out on the site. The subject of the work is the evaluation of available archaeological finds. Ceramic finds make it possible to chronologically determine up to the course of the 14th century with possible overlaps into the previous and following century. Documented arrowheads correspond to this determination. The site can likely be associated with the numerous written references to members of the lower nobility, who used the name of the village Lhota as a part of their surnames.

    Convergence rates of iterative algorithms for solving non-linear fixed-point (or root-finding) problems depend on the quality of the solution guess done in each iteration, which is used as the starting value in the next step. To avoid instabilities and oscillations, that guess is usually constructed (mixed) as a linear combination of the newly calculated value with values from the previous iterations. The mixing algorithm constitutes a crucial component for electronic structure calculation methods based on iterative seeking for a self-consistent state. This paper reviews several mixing algorithms for electronic structure calculations. The most important numerically confirmed finding is that the calculation speed depends more on the choice of the so-called “mixing coefficient” than on the choice of a particular algorithm.Then a new method allowing an automatic adaptation of this coefficient is proposed, implemented, and tested on various solid-state structures within three electronic structure calculation codes. In our testing cases, the newly designed Adaptive Anderson Algorithm exhibits better convergence for a broader range of initial mixing coefficients, and similar or better robustness, in comparison to the standard Anderson method. The Fortran implementation of the new algorithm and its Python wrapper are briefly described in the paper and made available for public use.

    The paper presents two-scale numerical algorithms for stress-strain analysis of porous media featured by self-contact at pore level. The porosity is constituted as a periodic lattice generated by a representative cell consisting of elastic skeleton, rigid inclusion and a void pore. Unilateral frictionless contact is considered between opposing surfaces of the pore. For the homogenized model derived in our previous work, we justify incremental formulations and propose several variants of two-scale algorithms which commute iteratively solving of the micro- and the macro-level contact subproblems. A dual formulation which take advantage of the assumed microstructure periodicity and a small deformation framework, is derived for the contact problems at the micro-level. This enables to apply the semi-smooth Newton method. For the global, macrolevel step two alternatives are tested; one relying on a frozen contact identified at the microlevel, the other based on a reduced contact associated with boundaries of contact sets. Numerical examples of 2D deforming structures are presented as a proof of the concept.

    We study the existence of travelling wave solutions of a nonlinear fourth–order partial differential equation which can be considered as a model of an asymmetrically supported beam. We use a variational approach and show that there exist infinitely many travelling wave solutions under considerably weakened assumptions than those previously used in the literature. On the other hand, allowing the presence of sign preserving nonlinearities results in a limitation of the possible values of the wave speed. We pose several questions that still remain open, particularly regarding the range of wave speeds and the number of solutions. Moreover, some forms of classical solutions are presented together with some numerical experiments.

    In 2017–2020, rescue archaeological research continued on the deposits above the preserved basement rooms of the western palace of the castle in Brandýs nad Orlicí. The exca vation yielded evidence of the presence of tiled stoves, crown window glass, non-combustible roofing in the form of fragments of barrel tiles and ceramic square tiles that once covered the floors of the upper stories. The interiors of the rooms yielded a diverse variety of kitchen ceramics, metal objects and numerous fragments of hollow glassware.

    Efektivní hospodaření se srážkovou vodou v urbanizovaných územích by mělo splňovat požadavky legislativy, naplňovat zásady odpovědného hospodaření s vodou, být ekonomicky efektivní ve fázích přípravy, realizace i provozu a též přinášet celospolečenské benefity, například kvalitní veřejná prostranství, ochranu vodních zdrojů nebo podporu biodiverzity. Publikace shrnuje poznatky, které ukazují veřejné správě a odborné veřejnosti cestu, jak prosazovat hospodaření se srážkovou vodou v rámci plánování a výstavby na rozvojových plochách měst. Text zároveň odkazuje na další výsledky řešení projektu TA ČR – katalog opatření, softwarovou aplikaci a specializované mapy pilotních lokalit.

    Dynamics of populations with logistic growth leads to global persistence on arbitrary networks, whereas bistable dynamics is always associated with local extinction. In this paper we study a reaction-diffusion model on networks with a combination of both logistic and bistable reactions. We analyze a system of source-sink dynamics on networks with migration survival probabilities and derive conditions for strong persistence or local extinction. We show how the persistence or extinction of small populations depend on the diffusion strength, migration survival probability, network structure, and the sum and distribution of per capita growth rates. Dynamika populací s logistickým růstem vede ke globální persistenci na obecných sítích, zatímco bistabilní dynamika je vždy spojena s lokálním vymíráním. V tomto článku studujeme reakčně-difuzní model na sítích s kombinací jak logistických tak bistabilních reakcí. Analyzujeme dynamický systém na sítích s pravděpodobnostmi přežití migrace a odvozujeme podmínky pro silnou persistenci a lokální extinkci. Ukazujeme, jak závisí persistence a extinkce malých populací na síle difuze, pravděpodobnosti přežití migrace, struktuře sítě a součtu a rozložení intenzit růstu.
