W literaturze na temat Barucha Spinozy spotyka się nierzadko (choćby w popularnym omówieniu autorstwa Rogera Scrutona czy u Ernsta Cassirera) pogląd, że jego filozofia jest apoteozą bezruchu. Pojawiają się też rzecz jasna głosy odrębne, jak choćby ostatnio Agaty Bielik-Robson, odwołującej się do klasycznej interpretacji dzieła Spinozy autorstwa Gilles’a Deleuze’a, którą można nazwać witalistyczną. Jednakże nikt do tej pory nie próbował przyjrzeć się myśli autora "Etyki" z perspektywy tanecznej, a więc pokazać, że podstawową kategorią interpretacyjną, szczególnie jeśli chodzi o główne dzieło Spinozy, warto uczynić nie bezruch, ale poruszenie, uporządkowany, pełen życia ruch, taniec właśnie. Niniejszy artykuł proponuje taką interpretację, wysuwając tezę, iż myśl autora "Etyki" nazwać można filozoficznym tańcem. W tym kontekście zwrócona zostaje uwaga na intrygujące pokrewieństwo między najsłynniejszym portretem Spinozy a obrazem Jana Steena "Tańcząca para" (1663). Nic nie wiemy na temat tego, czy filozof i malarz utrzymywali wzajemne stosunki, a jednak warto przyjrzeć się tanecznemu duchowi, który przenika dzieło Steena i twórczość Spinozy, choćby po to, by rozprawić się ze stereotypem, że purytańskie społeczeństwo niderlandzkie tamtego okresu było niewrażliwe na piękno ruchu ludzkiego ciała. The philosophy of Baruch Spinoza is often (for example in Roger Scruton’s popular introduction or in Ernst Cassirer) looked at as an apotheosis of stillness. One can of course find also other interpretations, for example the one proposed recently by Agata Bielik-Robson in reference to the classic commentary to Spinoza’s oeuvre by Gilles Deleuze, which can be called vitalistic. Yet no one so far has attempted to look at the works of great seventeenth-century rationalist from the perspective of dance. This article is aimed at doing just that - proving that Spinoza’s works, especially "Ethics", can be interpreted as philosophical dance, because of the author’s sensitivity to organized, but also lively movement. In this context a striking resemblance between Spinoza’s most famous portrait and Jan Steen’s "Dancing Couple" (1663) is noticed and analysed in the article. Although the two masters living in United Provinces in the middle of XVII century are not known to have been acquainted, a certain dance spirit common to both is worth reconstructing, if only to prove wrong the stereotype that puritan Dutch society of the era was insensitive to the beauty of movement of the human body.

The paper addresses the issue of an inherited memory of the Great War and traces its manifestations in contemporary (auto)biographical narratives. Two writers’ memoirs, i.e. Christopher Isherwood’s Kathleen and Frank (1971) and Doris Lessing’s Alfred and Emily, (2008) have been selected for an in-depth analysis which aims to show how the children of the survivors/casualties of the Great War have struggled with – to use Doris Lessing’s expression – “the poison running in [their] veins”, namely with an inherited memory and trauma of the trenches. Most importantly, the paper postulates that literary and cultural studies on postmemory should be expanded, both thematically and generically, and cover the memory of the Great War.

W artykule omówiono problemy wartościowania informacji zawartej w komunikatach języka naturalnego, przede wszystkim oceny ich prawdziwości oraz wykładników tej oceny (modalności aletycznej) w systemie języka naturalnego i w wypowiedziach o funkcji metainformacyjnej. Główną uwagę skupiono na wykładnikach gramatycznych, pozasystemowych (intonacja, mimika, gest) oraz sytuacyjnych (żart, metafora, ironia). This article discusses issues of evaluating information contained in natural language messages, mainly the assessment of their veracity and the exponents of this assessment (alethic modality) in the natural language system and in statements with a meta-information function. The study focuses on grammatical, extrasystemic (intonation, facial expressions, gesture) and situational exponents (joke, metaphor, irony).
