    Selective removal of coatings by lasers can facilitate the reuse of coated tools in a circular economy. In order to optimise and control the process, it is essential to study the impact of process input variables on process performance. In this paper, coating removal from tooling was carried out using a picosecond a pulsed fibre laser, in order to investigate the effects of laser pulse energy, pulse frequency, galvo scanning speed and scanning track stepover. A fractional factorial design of experiments and analysis of variance was used to optimise the process; considering cleaning rate, specific energy consumption and surface integrity as assessed by changes in surface roughness and composition of the tooling after laser cleaning. The results shows synergy between cleaning rate and specific energy with the laser pulse frequency and galvo scanning speed as the two most significant factors, while the laser pulse energy had the greatest contribution to changes in surface composition. Based on extensive experiments, the relationship between processing rate and system specific energy consumption was mathematically modelled. The paper contributes a new specific energy model for laser cleaning and provides a benchmark of the process energy requirements compared to other manufacturing processes. Additionally, the generic scientific learning from this is that the rate of energy input is a key tool for maximising cleaning rate and minimising specific energy requirements, while the intensity of energy applied, is a key metric that influences surface integrity. More complex factors, influence the surface integrity.

    AbstractBackground: Few studies have prospectively assessed the impact of breast cancer (BC) on women's sexual lives. Therefore, this study examines the determinants of quality of sexual life (QOSL), sexual functioning (SF), and sexual enjoyment (SE) at 6 and 12 months after surgical treatment.Methods: All participants completed a measure of QOSL (The World Health Organization Quality of Life assessment instrument‐100 (WHOQOL‐100)‐facet Sexual Activity) before diagnosis (Time‐1), and 1 (Time‐2), 3 (Time‐3), 6 (Time‐4) and 12 months (Time‐5) after surgical treatment. At Time‐1, women also completed questionnaires on personality (The State Trait Anxiety Inventory‐trait, NEO‐FFI), body image and self‐esteem (WHOQOL‐100), depressive symptoms (Center for Epidemiological Studies‐Depression Scale), and fatigue (Fatigue Assessment Scale). Furthermore, SF and SE (The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Breast Cancer module) were measured from Time‐2 onwards.Results: At baseline, the analysis included 223 women with early stage BC. Clinical factors did not predict QOSL, SF or SE. In the final analyses, trait anxiety predicted QOSL and SF at Time‐4 (p's<0.01). At Time‐5, agreeableness predicted QOSL and SE (p's<0.05). Having a partner and age predicted SF, while SE was predicted by educational level (Time‐4). In addition, fatigue predicted SE at Time‐4 (p<0.05). In general, QOSL diminished across time, while SF improved. However, women with a mastectomy did not differ from women with breast conserving therapy.Conclusions: Mainly personality and psychological factors affect patients' sexuality after surgical treatment. Clinical factors did not predict QOSL, SF or SE. More knowledge in this field will help professionals to identify women who are at risk of experiencing sexual problems and consequently will contribute to provide adequate support.     Objectives: The National Health Service Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme is a nine-month behavioural intervention for adults in England at risk of type 2 diabetes. This qualitative study aimed to explore how service users engaged with the group support available within the programme.Methods: The majority of participants (n=33), all service users, were interviewed twice via telephone, at 2-4 months into the programme, and at the end of the programme at 8-10 months. Semi-structured interviews covered participants’ experiences of online group support functions and how such groups served as a route of support to aid participants’ behavioural changes. Data were analysed using manifest thematic analysis.Results: The majority of participants valued the format of closed group chats, which provided an interactive platform to offer and receive support during their behaviour-change journey. However, engagement with group chats reduced over time, and some participants did not find them useful when there was a lack of common interests within the group. Health coaches helped to promote engagement and build rapport among participants within the group chats. Participants reported mixed experiences of discussion forums.Conclusions: Programme developers should consider how to optimise online group support to help service users make behavioural changes, in terms of format, participant composition and use of health coach moderators. Further research is required to better understand who might benefit most from ‘group chat’ or ‘discussion forum’ support. Health coach moderation of online support groups is likely to facilitate engagement.

    By virtue of their profession’s nature, theatre actors/actresses have to preserve and maintain their voice quality. Thus, voice therapists strongly advise them to engage in protective-preventive activities so as to eliminate the risk of voice disorders beforehand. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a 12-week holistic vocal training program designed for theatre students. The program has been administered to 9 theatre students between 18-30 years of age, and different group of 9 students with similar characteristics were assigned to the control group. To measure the efficiency of the program, participants’ knowledge of vocal hygiene and vocal mechanisms were assessed pre and post-training via a questionnaire we developed, as well as objective and subjective voice measurements. Results showed that although there were no significant between-group differences, within-group comparisons revealed a significant increase in study group participants’ knowledge of vocal hygiene after training (p=0,011). Similarly, they outperformed the control group in vocal mechanism knowledge (p=0,027). In the objective measurements, Multi-Dimensional Voice Profile (MDVP) findings validated that vocal qualities of the control group deteriorated while no alterations were present in the study group. Although cepstral analysis identified deteriorations in vocal qualities of either group, they were observed to be more drastic in the control group. Subjective measurements of the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE- V)/Turkish did not introduce significant changes in the control group in grade and roughness parameters while these values decreased significantly in the study group (p=0,008). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the holistic vocal training program is effective. Bu çalışmanın amacı, tiyatro öğrencilerine yönelik oluşturulmuş bütüncül ses eğitimi programının etkinliğini ölçmektir. Çalışmamızda oluşturulan 12 haftalık eğitim programı, 18-30 yaşları arasında 9 tiyatro öğrencisine uygulanmış, aynı özelliklere sahip 9 tiyatro öğrencisi ise kontrol grubunu oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada uygulanan bütüncül ses eğitimi programının etkinliğini değerlendirmede, vokal hijyen ve vokal mekanizma bilgilerini ölçmek için geliştirilen bir anket, objektif ve subjektif ses değerlendirme araçları, çalışma öncesi ve sonrasında tüm katılımcılara uygulanmıştır. Anketten elde edilen puanlar, gruplar arası bir farklılık ortaya koymazken, grup içi puan karşılaştırmaları çalışma grubunda ikinci ölçümde vokal hijyen bilgisi puan ortalamasının yükseldiğini göstermektedir (p=0,011). Benzer olarak, vokal mekanizma bilgisi ortalama puanlarının ikinci ölçümde çalışma grubunda önemli ölçüde yükseldiği gözlenmiştir (p=0,027). Objektif ses değerlendirme sonuçlarına bakıldığında, Multi-Dimensional Voice Profile (MDVP) bulguları, çalışma grubunda ses kalitesinde ikinci ölçümde değişiklik olmadığını; kontrol grubundaki değerler ise ses kalitesinin kötüleştiğini işaret etmektedir.     This paper presents the main results obtained from 40 in-depth interviews with persons in charge of human resources and/or company directors, and from a questionnaire targeting 872 companies surveyed from a data base of the 5,000 main Spanish companies. The objectives of this paper are the following: first, to identify the competencies required of university graduates by the labour market; second, to find out the mismatches that may exist between the current higher education students receive and company demands; and third, to discover how and to what extent universities can improve their education and training in order to reduce the gap that, according to employers, exists between current business needs and the education that graduates have upon entering the labour market. To carry out this research project, the competencies under study have been divided into two large groups: vocational and generic. At the same time, the latter have been subdivided into three subgroups: knowledge-related, methodological, and interpersonal competencies.     Diu Island (India) was a Portuguese territory for more than four centuries until its integration into India in 1961. Portuguese influence can be seen in many buildings and works of art on the island, although many of these are in danger of deteriorating or vanishing altogether. The altarpiece in the chapel of Saint Anne’s Shelter is a poor- ly conserved work which remains almost unknown. Overlooked by art historians, this important work of art is probably the oldest remaining painting in Diu, directly linked to Goa and Portugal, exemplifying the journey of art forms between Europe and Asia. This article intends to understand the context in which the altarpiece was produced, and its influences and origins. The history of the building where the altarpiece stands is also important, as it likewise reveals the altarpiece’s history and context in Diu.

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul dördüncü sınıf matematik dersi Ondalık Kesirler konusunun Matematik Tarihi kullanılarak öğretiminin öğrencilerin akademik başarısı, hatırda tutma düzeyi ve motivasyonu üzerindeki etkilerini belirlemektir. Bu araştırma nicel araştırma desenlerinden ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarıdeneysel araştırma desenindedir. Ayrıca Matematik Tarihi’nin matematik öğretiminde kullanılması ile ilgili deney grubundaki sınıf öğretmeninin görüşleri alınarak araştırmaya nitel bir boyut katılmıştır. Araştırma 2014-2015 eğitim-öğretim yılının ikinci yarısında Aydın ilinde farklı ilçelerdeki iki ilkokulun 4. sınıflarında okuyan deney ve kontrol gruplarını oluşturan öğrencilerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma 26’sı deney grubunda ve 26’sı kontrol grubunda olmak üzere toplam 52 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Deney grubuna Matematik Tarihi kullanılarak, kontrol grubuna ise Matematik Tarihi kullanılmadan matematik öğretimi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney ve kontrol grubuna uygulama öncesi ve sonrasında Genç (2015) tarafından geliştirilen “Ondalık Kesirler Başarı Testi (OKBT)” ile Ersoy ve Öksüz (2015) tarafından geliştirilen “İlkokul Matematik Motivasyon Ölçeği (İMMÖ)” uygulanmıştır. Deney grubunda süreci gözlemleyen sınıf öğretmeni ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile görüşme gerçekleştirilmiş, betimsel analiz yapılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan deney ve kontrol gruplarının Ondalık Kesirler konusuna ilişkin hatırda tutma düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla uygulamanın bitiminden sekiz hafta sonra “Ondalık Kesirler Başarı Testi (OKBT)” tekrar uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 15.0 istatistiksel analiz yazılımı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda Matematik Tarihi kullanımının ilkokul dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin Ondalık Kesirler konusundaki akademik başarılarını, hatırda tutma düzeylerini ve matematik öğrenmeye yönelik motivasyonlarını önemli ölçüde yükselttiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca süreci gözlemleyen sınıf öğretmeninin Matematik Tarihi’nin matematik öğretiminde kullanımına yönelik görüşlerinin olumlu yönde olduğu görülmüştür. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of using history of mathematics in order to teach the Decimal Fractions, an elementary school fourth grade course subject, on students’ academic achievement, retention and motivation level. This study been structured in the form of quantitative and quasi-experimental design including pretest-posttest control group. In addition, this study exhibits a qualitative aspect based on views of classroom teacher partaking in experimental group regarding using the history of mathematics in math teaching. This study has been conducted in the second semester of 2014-2015 academic year with fourth grade students reclassified as experimental and control groups in two elementary schools of different districts in the city of Aydin. In total, 52 students, 26 of which for experimental group and remaining equal half for control group were participants of the research. In the experimental group math was instructed through using history of mathematics, as for the control group, it was instructed without using history of mathematics. Before and after the research practice AToD test (Achievement Test on Decimals) developed by Genc (2015) along with PSMMS (Primary School Mathematics Motivation Scale) developed by Ersoy and Oksuz (2015) have been implemented in both classes. In the experimental group, class teacher observed the process were interviewed through semi-structured form and the interview data were analysed descriptively. Achievement Test on Decimals has been implemented again after eight week following the research practice to determine retention level of Decimals in the experimental and control groups of research. Data obtained were analysed using SPSS 15.0 statistical analysis software. In this study following conclusion has been reached: The Use of History of Mathematics has considerably increased the level of student success, retention level of Decimals and motivation level towards mathematics. Furthermore views of a class teacher who has observed the process related to the use of history of mathematics in math teaching are positive.

    This thesis offers the first comprehensive and comparative study of Hellenistic mouldmade relief bowls discovered in Thessaly. The material under examination originates from old (1906-1916) and more recent excavations (1970s – to this day) across 23 Thessalian sites, conducted under the auspices of the Archaeological Society of Athens (under A. Arvanitopoulos) and the local Ephorates of Antiquities. Out of the 616 complete and fragmentary bowls examined here (which are recorded in 568 catalogue entries), only a few groups have been partially published to this day. The aim of this study is to offer a regional perspective regarding the production, distribution and consumption of a very popular category of fine-ware, dispersed across the Hellenistic world. The examination of relief bowls within their excavation contexts (chapter.II) enables the identification of production centres and local workshops across the region. At the same time, it sheds light to the offering and use of such vessels in funerary assemblages. The interpretation of the bowls’ iconography (chapter.III) explains how literacy, education, theatricality, myths, cults, and everyday life were expressed in aspects of Thessalian material culture during the Hellenistic period. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of mouldmade bowls with other contemporary and earlier forms of art. Recording and discussing various types of inscriptions occurring on the bowls (chapter.IV) enhances our understanding of their relationship with manuscripts, of local dialects and paleographical trends. The classification of the bowls into typological groups and comparisons with other regional productions, mostly of mainland Greece and Asia Minor, allows the establishment of a typological sequence for the Thessalian production (chapter.V). Identifying imported specimens from other major production centres showcases the place of Thessaly within a network of Aegean pottery workshops, and the significance of its cosmopolitan harbours and land-routes as transit centres (chapter.VI). Ultimately, this research improves our understanding of material culture in Thessaly during the last three centuries BC and comprises an original contribution to Hellenistic pottery studies.

    We demonstrate a new structural instability of shell-like assemblies of polyoxometalates. Besides the colloidal instability, that is, the formation of aggregates that consist of many single layered POM-shells, these systems also display an instability on a structural scale within the shell-like assemblies. This instability occurs at significantly lower ionic strength than the colloidal stability limit and only becomes evident after a relatively long time. For the polyoxometalate, abbreviated as {Mo72Fe30}, it is shown that the structural stability limit of POM-shells lies between a NaCl concentration of 1.00 and 5.00 mM in aqueous solution.

    Selective removal of coatings by lasers can facilitate the reuse of coated tools in a circular economy. In order to optimise and control the process, it is essential to study the impact of process input variables on process performance. In this paper, coating removal from tooling was carried out using a picosecond a pulsed fibre laser, in order to investigate the effects of laser pulse energy, pulse frequency, galvo scanning speed and scanning track stepover. A fractional factorial design of experiments and analysis of variance was used to optimise the process; considering cleaning rate, specific energy consumption and surface integrity as assessed by changes in surface roughness and composition of the tooling after laser cleaning. The results shows synergy between cleaning rate and specific energy with the laser pulse frequency and galvo scanning speed as the two most significant factors, while the laser pulse energy had the greatest contribution to changes in surface composition. Based on extensive experiments, the relationship between processing rate and system specific energy consumption was mathematically modelled. The paper contributes a new specific energy model for laser cleaning and provides a benchmark of the process energy requirements compared to other manufacturing processes. Additionally, the generic scientific learning from this is that the rate of energy input is a key tool for maximising cleaning rate and minimising specific energy requirements, while the intensity of energy applied, is a key metric that influences surface integrity. More complex factors, influence the surface integrity.

    AbstractBackground: Few studies have prospectively assessed the impact of breast cancer (BC) on women's sexual lives. Therefore, this study examines the determinants of quality of sexual life (QOSL), sexual functioning (SF), and sexual enjoyment (SE) at 6 and 12 months after surgical treatment.Methods: All participants completed a measure of QOSL (The World Health Organization Quality of Life assessment instrument‐100 (WHOQOL‐100)‐facet Sexual Activity) before diagnosis (Time‐1), and 1 (Time‐2), 3 (Time‐3), 6 (Time‐4) and 12 months (Time‐5) after surgical treatment. At Time‐1, women also completed questionnaires on personality (The State Trait Anxiety Inventory‐trait, NEO‐FFI), body image and self‐esteem (WHOQOL‐100), depressive symptoms (Center for Epidemiological Studies‐Depression Scale), and fatigue (Fatigue Assessment Scale). Furthermore, SF and SE (The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Breast Cancer module) were measured from Time‐2 onwards.Results: At baseline, the analysis included 223 women with early stage BC. Clinical factors did not predict QOSL, SF or SE. In the final analyses, trait anxiety predicted QOSL and SF at Time‐4 (p's<0.01). At Time‐5, agreeableness predicted QOSL and SE (p's<0.05). Having a partner and age predicted SF, while SE was predicted by educational level (Time‐4). In addition, fatigue predicted SE at Time‐4 (p<0.05). In general, QOSL diminished across time, while SF improved. However, women with a mastectomy did not differ from women with breast conserving therapy.Conclusions: Mainly personality and psychological factors affect patients' sexuality after surgical treatment. Clinical factors did not predict QOSL, SF or SE. More knowledge in this field will help professionals to identify women who are at risk of experiencing sexual problems and consequently will contribute to provide adequate support.     Objectives: The National Health Service Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme is a nine-month behavioural intervention for adults in England at risk of type 2 diabetes. This qualitative study aimed to explore how service users engaged with the group support available within the programme.Methods: The majority of participants (n=33), all service users, were interviewed twice via telephone, at 2-4 months into the programme, and at the end of the programme at 8-10 months. Semi-structured interviews covered participants’ experiences of online group support functions and how such groups served as a route of support to aid participants’ behavioural changes. Data were analysed using manifest thematic analysis.Results: The majority of participants valued the format of closed group chats, which provided an interactive platform to offer and receive support during their behaviour-change journey. However, engagement with group chats reduced over time, and some participants did not find them useful when there was a lack of common interests within the group. Health coaches helped to promote engagement and build rapport among participants within the group chats. Participants reported mixed experiences of discussion forums.Conclusions: Programme developers should consider how to optimise online group support to help service users make behavioural changes, in terms of format, participant composition and use of health coach moderators. Further research is required to better understand who might benefit most from ‘group chat’ or ‘discussion forum’ support. Health coach moderation of online support groups is likely to facilitate engagement.

    By virtue of their profession’s nature, theatre actors/actresses have to preserve and maintain their voice quality. Thus, voice therapists strongly advise them to engage in protective-preventive activities so as to eliminate the risk of voice disorders beforehand. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a 12-week holistic vocal training program designed for theatre students. The program has been administered to 9 theatre students between 18-30 years of age, and different group of 9 students with similar characteristics were assigned to the control group. To measure the efficiency of the program, participants’ knowledge of vocal hygiene and vocal mechanisms were assessed pre and post-training via a questionnaire we developed, as well as objective and subjective voice measurements. Results showed that although there were no significant between-group differences, within-group comparisons revealed a significant increase in study group participants’ knowledge of vocal hygiene after training (p=0,011). Similarly, they outperformed the control group in vocal mechanism knowledge (p=0,027). In the objective measurements, Multi-Dimensional Voice Profile (MDVP) findings validated that vocal qualities of the control group deteriorated while no alterations were present in the study group. Although cepstral analysis identified deteriorations in vocal qualities of either group, they were observed to be more drastic in the control group. Subjective measurements of the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE- V)/Turkish did not introduce significant changes in the control group in grade and roughness parameters while these values decreased significantly in the study group (p=0,008). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the holistic vocal training program is effective. Anketten elde edilen puanlar, gruplar arası bir farklılık ortaya koymazken, grup içi puan karşılaştırmaları çalışma grubunda ikinci ölçümde vokal hijyen bilgisi puan ortalamasının yükseldiğini göstermektedir (p=0,011). Benzer olarak, vokal mekanizma bilgisi ortalama puanlarının ikinci ölçümde çalışma grubunda önemli ölçüde yükseldiği gözlenmiştir (p=0,027).
