Purpose: Conduct case study research on resilience. The intention for the project was to understand how communities are ensuring their health and wellbeing in the face of social and ecological changes. The aim of the research was to understand how resilience was defined in Gwich'in and Inuvialuit cultures; explore pre-existing variables as measures to resilience with youth, adults, and elders; and learn what changes in the community and on the land different generations consider to be negative and positive for them. The data consists of quantitative and qualitative data. 26 interviews semi-structured interviews using an interview guide to collect quantitative and qualitative data were done with elders (n=9), adults (n=8) and youth (n=9). 2 focus groups were done with youth (n=6) and elders (n=6). There are audio files and transcriptions for all interviews. 7 unstructured interviews were done with elders (n=5) and youth (n=2) to collect qualitative data Summary: Not Applicable

A new application for reflector antennas is proposed and developed. Using the aperture theory, a phase center on the reflector aperture is determined and shown that, its location is dependent on the field distribution. The proposed concept is, initially, verified by using a symmetric reflector. It is shown that the phase center is located at the aperture geometric center, when the reflector is illuminated symmetrically about its principal planes. Then, a dual mode feed, employing TE11 and TM01 modes, is used for generating different reflector illuminations, and causing displacement of its phase center. The concept is then extended to offset reflectors, and the influence of the reflector geometry on the phase center displacement and other reflector electrical parameters is investigated. Based on the established feed radiation pattern requirements, a feed horn is designed using circular waveguide that can propagate both modes. By modifying the amplitude and phase of the modes in the horn, a controlled asymmetric reflector aperture field is achieved. A prototype feed horn is fabricated and tested for its dual mode radiation patterns. The results are in good agreement with simulations. The reflector phase center properties are then investigated, by using the designed feed. A reflector-feed assembly, with its dual phase center capability, was developed for improving the performance of the ground moving target indicator radars. The concept allows the conversion of a single reflector to two or more reflectors, simply by modifying the mode excitation amplitudes and phases, in the feed alone.

The application of Li-ion batteries have been expanding at a rapid rate in recent decades due to the tremendous demands in the market for portable electronics, smart grid, and electric vehicles (EVs). All-solid-state lithium metal battery (ASSLB) is the most promising next-generation energy storage device as they can solve the safety issue resulted from liquid electrolytes. Among different types of solid-state electrolytes (SSE), garnet-type structure materials have been shown to be very promising for the development of ASSLBs owing to their high Li-ion conductivity (∼10–3 S cm⁻¹ at RT), wide electrochemical stability window (∼6 V vs Li+/Li), and good chemical stability against Li metal. The high interfacial resistance generated by inadequate contact and interfacial reactions is a substantial impediment to the adaptation of ASSLBs. To address this challenge, a catholyte (a small amount of ionic conductors which are mostly derived from the solid electrolyte formulation) is introduced into the cathode formulation. This necessities a re-design of the cathode into a composite cathode with possibly new components such as carbon additives with high aspect ratio and conductive binders. Understanding their individual and combined impacts on performance is essential in the pursuit of optimized systems. In this work, we designed a series of composite cathode formulations defined with three cathode active materials (LFP, NMC 622 and NMC 811), three carbonaceous additives (carbon black, carbon nanofibers and carbon nanotubes), and a series of organic and inorganic molecular, and polymeric conductors along with LLZO to create a composite cathode with high capacity and stability at high C-rates. A systematic DOE approach has been utilized to evaluate the impact of each component on the electrode and cell performance and the results will be presented.
