In Italian Literature, the Southern Front (by the river Isonzo) figures prominently when it comes to representations of WWI. The War was only only thematized after Italy joined the Entente in their fight against the Central Powers in May 1915. This might explain why the Sarajevo Assassination did not get the resonance it had in other countries. However, there is a literary work which is exclusively dedicated to the event: Gilberto Forti's tale in verse "A Sarajevo il 18 giugno" which was published in 1984 only. The book is organized in 11 chapters, everyone of which is narrated from a different point of view by fictitious characters. This process of fictionalizing a historich event can been understood through the convention of the outdated genre which gives the occurences a peculiar "patina". The assassination is perceived as historical cesura which brings an end to the old imperial world pre-1914.

Interventi sullo sviluppo della Cittadinanza plurale in Bosnia-Erzegovina, e nella società e nella storia europea

This file includes fourteen documents from the archives of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Muslim militias active in the World War II in the north-east Bosnia. Little written record is left of these Muslim militias. However, we can reconstruct their activities owing to documents from numerous other sources, including the archive materials of NDH and the People’s Liberation Movement. They give the impression that these units were primarily local, and organised around charismatic leaders, such as Muhamed Hadžiefendić or Nešet Topčić. Their main purpose is to protect Muslim villages. But they also serve as a refuge for deserters from the regular Croatian army, and they often resort to plunder and murder themselves (see e.g. the massacre at Jeginov Lug). Furthermore, they maintain complex and volatile relationships with NDH, the Partisan movement, and even with the chetniks. Due to all contradictions, in the end they fail to fulfil their primary mission and protect the Muslim community.
