The purpose of this study is to examine the research on faculty members as one of the central subjects of Turkish higher education research based on data from 256 articles, master’s and doctoral theses between 2015 and 2019. An analytical framework was used to review and classify the information on research and researchers, the object of study, and the object of knowledge. Turkish higher education research on faculty members was mainly published in the form of articles in peer-reviewed journals in Turkish. The primary objects of study were about the islands of teaching and learning, policy studies, identity development, institutional research, and the scholarships of discovery and teaching. As for the object of knowledge, Turkish higher education research on faculty members was found to be descriptive. Quantitative studies employed parametric tests for research data based on the target population and simple random sampling with a maximum of 400 respondents. The qualitative studies used interviews and content analysis for data collection and analysis. Establishing structures focusing on systematic and long-term research on faculty around the issues such as recruitment, career, and post-career stages was among the recommendations of the paper.

A 71-year-old male patient was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma follicular variant after bilateral total thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine treatment was applied. The post-therapeutic whole-body scan demonstrated a focal 131-I uptake in the right lobe of the liver in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. Single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) was performed to determine the precise localization of 131-I uptake. It was understood that the identified focal 131-I activity was due to cholelithiasis. In the same period, free-floating gallstones in the lumen and the gallbladder neck were observed on the abdominal ultrasonography.

The transoral thyroidectomy (TT) is a feasible novel surgical procedure that does not need visible incisions, a truly cutaneous scar-free surgery. Inclusion criteria are (a) patients who have a ultrasonographically (US) estimated thyroid diameter not larger than 10 cm, (b) US estimated gland volume ?45 mL, (c) nodule size ?50 mm, (d) a benign tumor, such as a thyroid cyst, single-nodular goiter, or multinodular goiter, (e) follicular neoplasm, and (f ) papillary microcarcinoma without evidence of metastasis. the procedure is carried out through a three-port technique placed at the oral vestibule; one 10-mm port for a 30° endoscope and two additional 5-mm ports for dissecting and coagulating instruments. CO2 insufflation pressure is set at 6 mmHg. An anterior cervical subplatysmal space is created from the oral vestibule down to the sternal notch, laterally to the sternocleidomastoid muscle medial edges. TT is done fully endoscopically using conventional endoscopic instruments.

Anemia, transfusion and bleeding independently increase the risk of complications and mortality in cardiac surgery. the main goals of patient blood management are to treat anemia, prevent bleeding, and optimize the use of blood products during the perioperative period. the benefit of this program has been confirmed in many studies and its utilization is strongly recommended by professional organizations. This consensus report has been prepared by the authors who are the task members appointed by the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Turkish Society of Cardiology (TSC), and Society of Cardio-Vascular-Thoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care to raise the awareness of patient blood management. This report aims to summarize recommendations for all perioperative bloodconserving strategies in cardiac surgery.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are popular consumer product additives due to their well-known antimicrobial properties. Nowadays, their usage has increased after the emergence of green synthesis method with less toxicity than conventional methods. In this study, we aimed to reveal the antimicrobial potential of phytosynthesized AgNP by Laurus nobilis L. extracts against different Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria as well as Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Phyto-synthesized AgNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, zeta size-potential analysis, UV-Visible spectroscopy and FT-IR analysis. The results showed that the size of AgNP was 50 nm and coated by phyto-constituents such as phenolic compounds according to FT-IR results. The antimicrobial activity of AgNP was determined by MIC and MBC tests. The results pointed that green synthesized AgNPs are effective against various microorganisms.

Ekimia ozcan-secmenii Şenol & Eroğlu sp. nov. (Apiaceae) is described from SW Turkey. E. ozcan-secmenii differs from its close affinity, E. bornmuelleri, by life form (monocarpic), petal and bracteole morphology, and mericarp features. These data were more supported by the results of nrDNA ITS sequences. the ML tree depicted based on phylogenetic studies aimed to reveal the closeness of the Laserpitium and Prangos species as well as the location the affinity of species in the genus Ekimia. the taxonomic situation of Prangos hulusi was also evaluated based on nrDNA ITS sequences. Since E. ozcan-secmenii is distributed in Sami Soydam Sandalcık hydroelectric power plant in Acıpayam, Denizli, the population is threatening by flooding. Therefore, conservation programs are urgently recommended.
