The author of the article is a 1st year student of the Bachelor's study program at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia (UL) and a scholarship holder of the University of Latvia Foundation, whose interests include historical research and public activity within the framework of patriotism. The author has carried out research on the press coverage of the founding of the UL in September 1919, when a decisive event in the history of the Latvian state - the Latvian War of Independence (1918-1920) - took place. The article provides an opportunity to learn new, innovative facts and research directions for future work by other scholarship holders of the UL Foundation or specialists in the history of the Museum of the University of Latvia. Raksta autors ir LU Juridiskās fakultātes Bakalaura studiju programmas 1. kursa students un LU Fonda stipendiāts, kura interesēs ir vēstures pētniecība un sabiedriskā darbība patriotisma ietvaros. Autors veicis pētījumu par LU dibināšanas atspoguļojumu 1919. gada septembra presē, kad norisinājās izšķirošs notikums Latvijas valsts vēsturē - Latvijas Neatkarības karš (1918-1920). Rakstā iespēja uzzināt jaunus, novatoriskus faktus un pētniecības virzienus, pie kuriem jāstrādā turpmāk citiem LU Fonda stipendiātiem vai LU Muzeja vēstures speciālistiem.

An article about the chemistry practicum for engineers, mechanics and architects created in 1919 by the Polish physical chemist Mechislav Centnershvere (1874-1944) in the collection of the Museum of the University of Latvia. Raksts par Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja krājumā esošo poļu fizikālķīmiķa Mečislava Centneršvēra (1874-1944) 1919. gadā veidoto ķīmijas praktikumu inženieriem, mehāniķiem un arhitektiem.

The article is a continuation of the Subject of the September 2021 "The Historical Flag of the University of Latvia", which analyses the failure of the University of Latvia Flag Foundation during 1990s, based on sources of student fraternity/sorority history in the collection of the Museum of the University of Latvia and previous research. It concludes that the reason for the non-realisation of the University of Latvia Flag Foundation was the severance of the historical links of Latvian student academical life organisations with the University of Latvia due to the occupation of the USSR for about 50 years. Raksts ir turpinājums LU Muzeja 2021. gada septembra Mēneša priekšmetam "Latvijas Universitātes vēsturiskais karogs", kurā tiek analizēta LU Karoga fonda nerealizēšanās 1990. gados, balstoties uz studentu/šu korporāciju vēstures avotiem LU Muzeja krājumā un līdzšinējiem pētījumiem. Tiek secināts, ka LU Karoga fonda nerealizēšanās cēlonis bija Latvijas studentu akadēmisko mūža organizāciju vēsturisko saikņu ar LU pārtrūkums sakarā ar aptuveni 50 gadus ilgušo PSRS okupāciju.

he article is dedicated to a unique discovery in the Historic Student solitary confinement cell of the University of Latvia, preserved since the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. An analysis of 3 papiros packets and 1 matchbox from the time of the Russian Empire has been made, clarifying its origin, use, and scientific novelty. The found objects show that the students locked in the Student solitary confinement cell could circumvent the punishment for smoking stipulated in the Student Disciplinary Regulation of the Riga Polytechnikum. The objects are also a legacy of Latvia's industrial history, testifying to the importance of the Baltic region in the industrial development of the Russian Empire. Raksts veltīts unikālam atklājumam Latvijas Universitātes vēsturiskajā Studentu karcerī, kas glabājies kopš 19./20. gs. mijas. Tiek analizētas 3 papirosu paciņas un 1 sērkociņu kastīte no Krievijas impērijas laika, noskaidrojot tā izcelsmi, pielietojumu un zinātnisko novitāti. Atrastie priekšmeti liecina, ka Studentu karcerī ieslēgtie studenti spēja apiet Rīgas Politehnikuma Studentu disciplinēšanas regulā noteikto sodu par smēķēšanu. Priekšmeti arī ir Latvijas industriālās vēstures atstāts mantojums, kas liecina par Baltijas reģiona nozīmi Krievijas impērijas rūpniecības attīstībā.

Celebrating the 130th anniversary of the botanist Pauls Galenieks (1891-1962), the new acquisition of the museum, the professor's dissertation “Latvian Roses”, which was defended in 1936, was chosen as the subject of the Museum of the University of Latvia in February 2021. The article provides an insight into the dissertation and its creation. Atzīmējot botāniķa Paula Galenieka (1891-1962) 130 gadu jubileju LU Muzejs publicē profesora īsu biogrāfiju. Rakstā izmantota Latvijas Lauksaimniecības universitātes izdotā grāmata par P. Galenieku un materiali LU Muzeja krājumā.

This is the first article of the Museum of the University of Latvia on the academic lifetime organisations of the University of Latvia female students, where the regalia of the Latvian Student sorority "Dzintra" in the collection of the Museum of the University of Latvia have been selected. The article analyses the use and symbolic significance of these regalia, highlighting the importance and role of the student sorority itself in the history of the Latvian state and the University of Latvia. It is found that the Student sorority is not only a group of interests, but also a great commitment to the Latvian state and its society. Šī ir pirmā LU Muzeja rubrika par LU studenšu akadēmiskajām mūža organizācijām, kur izvēlētas latviešu studenšu korporācijas "Dzintra" regālijas LU Muzeja krājumā. Raksts analizē šo regāliju pielietojumu un simbolisko nozīmi, uzsverot arī pašas studenšu korporācijas nozīmi un lomu Latvijas valsts un LU vēsturē. Tiek konstatēts fakts, ka studenšu korporācija ne tikai ir interešu pulciņš, bet arī liela saistību uzņemšanās pret Latvijas valsti un tās sabiedrību.

Vidzeme, one of the cultural and historical regions of Latvia, became a part of the kingdom of Sweden during the 17th century. Subsequently, Swedish cartographers mapped the estates of Vidzeme and then compiled maps of larger territories then called castle districts. The present research inspects 11 of these late 17th century maps and analyzes the microtoponyms found there. For an illustration, the maps of Sāviena (Sawensee) and Aburti (Lüggen) estates are chosen. This paper consider as microtoponyms not only the names of meadows, forests, swamps and hills, but also some hydronyms denoting smaller rivers and lakes that had not yet been academically analyzed, in total names of 26 objects. The majority of these microtoponyms denote what was then called streijgabali – remote parts of agricultural land that belonged to a central property but did not have a direct border with it. These maps depict some no longer existing lakes and swamps (e.g. Linn Siöö, Linne Purwe, Werdig purw), contain some almost unintelligible names of forests no longer known (e.g. Ewaete Sille), and testify about the ancient status of some place names (e.g. Pillis Kalln). The remote parts of land properties are often defined in map legends in Swedish as buskland i bruk, i.e. woodlands and scrublands. In most cases the names of these properties contain the generic element gabals ‘piece’. These placenames are often related to objects in the area. Four of them – Kanger, Pargull, Pasʃele and Saulleskaln – became farmhouse names during the following centuries. The number of these placenames is not sufficient to reconstruct the linguistic landscape of the 17th century estates. Nevertheless, they give an insight into the concepts of centre and periphery of that time and their denominations, into the perception of reference points of a landscape, and into the creative mind of the 17th century people.
